Photos from a great panel discussion at #SATELLITE on Tuesday! This panel, moderated by DIFI Board Director Simon Swift, also featured DIFI Chair Stuart Daughtridge. The panel highlighted the transformation of #satcom from basic bent pipes to processing nodes in the sky and how this transformation can only succeed if the ground segment can adapt with it. Teleport operators and technology executives discussed the pressure to change, the strategies being pursued by tech providers and how teleport operators approach the buying decision. A vast percentage of the telecom industry is assessing and adopting AI solutions, according to a recent report from NVIDIA. AI could accelerate telecom innovation, as operators leverage digital IF architectures and modernize legacy systems. It could also help be a key method of integrating telecom and satellite systems. Exciting news: We have released Version 1.2.1 of the DIFI Standard! DIFI’s Specification Working Group completed its revision of version 1.2.0 of the DIFI Standard this month and received the approval of the Board for publication. Version 1.2.1 delivers a significant improvement in the areas of sync and flow control over the previous version published in August 2022. According to Simon Swift of the working group, “Developing Version 1.2.1 of the DIFI standard was the most challenging task our working group has undertaken. It began at the European Plugfest last year, where we identified key issues that needed to be addressed. A lot of hard work by the group resolved the issues in version 1.2.1. But the work doesn’t stop there. In his final recap of the DIFI Workshop at #MILCOM near the end of 2024, Simon Swift shares the value the workshop provided to member organizations beyond presentations and conversations. Ten companies brought their equipment to showcase their capabilities and interoperability. This is just a small example of how the DIFI Consortium is instilling an ethos of cooperation in the industry.
