For centuries, travellers and scientists have visited #Sápmi, the homeland of Sámi Indigenous People. Their notes, diaries, depictions of Sámi culture and Sámi artefacts they collected are in the holdings of archives and memory organisations around Europe. 📅 On 18-19 September, the #DIGICHer project consortium met in beautiful Vilnius, hosted by the Faculty of Creative Industries of VILNIUS TECH - Vilnius Gediminas Technical University We were excited to share first research insights 📊, explore opportunities 🧠, discuss challenges 🔍 and plan next steps 🕒 . The project will design a new and practical #framework that promotes equity, inclusion and diversity in the representation of digital cultural content. Project partners will create knowledge-based recommendations for policy and decision-makers. These recommendations will focus on enhancing digitalisation efforts for cultural heritage collections with an emphasis on Improving equity, diversity and inclusion by placing minority groups at the centre of the digitalisation efforts. Each year, 9 August marks the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. The theme of the year is 'protecting the rights of Indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation and initial contact', in order to strengthen cultural and linguistic diversity. Sámi are the only Indigenous people living in Europe. Their homeland, Sápmi in Northern Sámi language, is located in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland, and on the Kola Peninsula in Russia. In total, nine Sámi languages are spoken in the area. Different groups have, for example, their own traditional dress, handicrafts, and objects.
