Gathered to recognize and celebrate the power of faith in action, more than 500 clergy, religious and faithful attended the annual Catholic Charities of South Jersey Dinner & Awards Ceremony last night. “Catholic Charities embodies the Gospel call to love and to serve our neighbors. Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide help and create hope,” Bishop Dennis Sullivan said in opening remarks. Selected parishioners and students from each of the Diocese of Camden’s five deaneries were presented with Disciples of Mercy awards, which recognize their commitment to serving the community’s most vulnerable. Deacon David Harkins, chief of police of the Gloucester Township Police Department, received Catholic Charities’ Saint John Neumann Award. “At its core, law enforcement seeks justice, and justice is a virtue that is central to Catholic social teaching,” Chief Harkins said in receiving the award. “However justice alone is not enough. As Catholics, we believe that justice must be tempered with mercy.” Check out dozens of photos from the night at: https://lnkd.in/emt6yhzF. When it comes to educating the faithful, “We are not alone in this work.” Such were the words of Bill Watson, Ph.D., superintendent of Catholic schools, who joins our Talking Catholic podcast this week along with Lee Mirenda DelleMonache, PhD, director of religious education, who are leading the process in the Diocese of Camden to rethink catechetical accompaniment. The two talk with hosts Mike Walsh and Jen Mauro about how their work to improve the elements of parish-based religious education led them down a path of completing rethinking the process of catechizing the faithful. It’s a fascinating and hopeful conversation. “Having lived in south Manhattan within proximity of the former Twin Towers, my experience of 9/11 remains vivid in my memory and enmeshed in my heart, despite the passage of 23 years.” Today, Diocese of Camden Bishop Dennis Sullivan writes about his witness “to the terrible evil of 9/11,” as well as “the incredible goodness and bravery on the part of office workers who delayed their own escape to assist a co-worker; those who rushed to the site to help.... self-sacrifice and compassion of people.”#WeRemember911 #NeverForget https://lnkd.in/gGgr9agJ

The 400th episode of our Talking Catholic podcast is here, but we're not celebrating that milestone—we're marking a historic moment in the Diocese of Camden as this week we warmly welcome our first coadjutor bishop, and future 9th bishop, Most Reverend Joseph A. Williams. To guide us through the traditions and spiritual significance of these events, Fr. Jason Rocks, the diocesan chancellor, will join us on The Vault. He’ll shed light on the rich rituals and their deep connection to our faith. Both the vespers and Mass of Welcome are ticketed, but you can still be part of the celebration. Tune in to our livestreams at youtube.com/camdendiocese and facebook.com/camdendiocese. Don’t miss out on this momentous event!
