We are wrapping up DIOPTRA's 4th consortium meeting in Riga, Latvia, and we would like to share some highlights from these two days packed with discussions, brainstorming, and a renewed sense of motivation towards DIOPTRA's mission of revolutionising colorectal cancer (CRC) screening by offering a non-invasive, accessible, and personalised risk estimation through liquid biopsies. 🧬  • The project's mobile app's development is proceeding rapidly, with its backend and content management system (CMS) now completed 📲 ⌛  • Partners engaged in a workshop to share joint innovations and identify key exploitable results 💡  • There are many variables to consider—legal, healthcare-related, technical, among others—but one element remains constant: the partners' dedication and commitment to improving CRC screening by developing patient-centered solutions 🫂 Thank you to all partners involved and to SmartSol, SIA for hosting us. 🚀 Our team recently conducted an in-depth interview with Ioannis Papanikolaou focusing on the impact that #DIOPTRA could have on #ColorectalCancer screenings. "DIOPTRA is big step to augment the screening programs because it has been noticed that from the patients that actually are indicated to have a screening colonoscopy, just a small portion of them actually go and take advantage of the opportunity and have their colonoscopy performed," says Papanikolaou. We're excited to announce that our consortium partner, the University of Ioannina (UOI), presented groundbreaking research at the 46th Annual International Conference of the #IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC) in Orlando, Florida, USA. The paper, "Towards the development of a FAIR-compliant biomedical ontology for colorectal cancer," explores the creation of a standardised vocabulary and knowledge structure for colorectal cancer research that adheres to FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). This work, conducted as part of the DIOPTRA Project, aims to enhance data sharing and knowledge integration in the field of colorectal cancer research, potentially accelerating discoveries and improving patient outcomes. It aligns perfectly with DIOPTRA's mission to advance digital pathology and improve cancer diagnosis and treatment.
