Creating accessible and inclusive communities and promoting independence for all people with disabilities..

About us

Disability Network of Mid-Michigan (DNMM) The Disability Experts in Your Community Our mission is to promote and encourage independence for all people with disabilities. We provide an array of services to people of all ages and with many types of disabilities. Our services include: Independent Living Skills Building Information & Referral Community Transitions Peer Support & Mentoring Skill Development Systems and Individual Advocacy We provide these services to people in Alcona, Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Roscommon, and Saginaw counties. Through our mission-driven work, we touch more than 10,000 people each year either through direct services or community education. DNMM is a consumer-run grassroots disability organization. We are a federally-funded Center for Independent Living. We believe in the Independent Living Philosophy: people with disabilities are the best experts on their needs and therefore they must take the initiative - individually and collectively - in designing and promoting better solutions and must organize themselves for political power. We believe that people with disabilities have the same right to participation, to the same range of options, degree of freedom, control and self-determination in every day life and life projects, that other citizens take for granted. Thus, we - as IL activists - seek the removal of infrastructure and institutional/attitudinal barriers in our communities. DNMM is a CARF-accredited, United Way, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

  • Today marks the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This historic civil rights act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. #ADA34 #Accessibility #DNMM

  • Yelp is introducing new searchable accessibility attributes to make it easier to find businesses that meet accessibility needs. They're also rolling out updates for people with visual impairments, like AI-powered alt text for photos to improve the experience for people using screen readers. And they created an Accessibility Resource Hub to help business owners learn about & implement inclusive practices. We applaud Yelp for making these updates! If you want help to make your business more accessible or inclusive, call us at (989) 835-4041. #yelp #accessibility #DisabilityPrideMonth

  • July is Disability Pride Month! It commemorates the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in July 1990, a historic milestone in advancing the rights of all people with disabilities. Since then, Disability Pride Month has become a celebration of the unique experiences, strengths, and achievements of people with disabilities. It is also a time to recognize that people with disabilities often face discrimination or marginalization based on their disability, race, gender, sexual orientation, or other intersecting factors. #DisabilityPrideMonth #ADA34 #DNMM
