"The programs have been recently facing attacks from conservatives, including from Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), the current Republican vice presidential nominee. Vance has offered legislation to eliminate federal DEI programs. 'The DEI agenda is a destructive ideology that breeds hatred and racial division,” Vance said in a June statement. “It has no place in our federal government or anywhere else in our society.' "

Another news story about the rise of automation within the food industry. With a significant 26% of expenses linked to labor costs, the implementation of robotics would help Sweetgreen achieve profitability. Instead of resisting the automation wave, consider how employees can be retrained for new opportunities with a focus on customer relations or engineering to maintain or repair the robotic systems. "With a valuation of more than $3 billion, investors clearly expect the company to continue opening stores (it opened a net of 4 more in the latest quarter), growing sales, and expanding its margins. And a big part of the plan is automation, with robots able to dispense, mix, and serve salads at select locations" https://buff.ly/3TaItH1 #Management #HumanResources #HiringAndPromotion #Culture #Leadership #HR #Recruiting #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #EmploymentLaw #Equity #DiversityMatters #DiversityEquityInclusion #DEI #WorkplaceCulture #RepresentationMatters #ESG #ROI #Impactinvesting

HEALTH INDUSTRY DEI STORY: The intersection of State and Local governance. This is an interesting story: "At last week’s meeting of Central Health’s budget and finance committee, the discussion turned to the health care district’s assorted services and cooperative agreements in place with the medical school aside from its annual $35 million payment that was approved by voters to cover treatment for vulnerable communities. Board Member Cynthia Valadez said by enforcing the requirements of a new anti-DEI law passed last year by the state Legislature, the university was acting counter to Central Health’s commitment to equitable health care in Austin."

ANTI-DEI Efforts: The GOOD NEWS is that they haven't been successful compared to Pro-DEI efforts but the BAD NEWS is that their goal is to pressure companies and that appears to be working. Employees advocating for DEI+ values within these companies need to clearly communicate their position to the leadership. It is crucial to come together and amplify your voices. "Conservative filers led by NLPC and the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) submitted 62% of this year’s anti-DEI proposals. It’s a coordinated campaign to target certain companies including Boeing Co., Alphabet Inc. and PepsiCo Inc. The effort comes as corporate America grapples with a slew of complaints and lawsuits that have taken aim at diversity practices following the Supreme Court’s decision last year to ban affirmative action programs in college admissions. One of the anti-DEI initiatives that garnered the largest backing was a request from NCPPR for Boeing to report on the risks created by its DEI strategy. Some 5.3% of shareholders supported that proposal. It was among three anti-DEI resolutions to reach the 5% threshold required by the US Securities and Exchange Commission for a shareholder to file the same proposal twice over a five-year period. The proxy effort isn’t anti-DEI, it’s “pro-fiduciary” and aimed at returning companies to “neutrality,” according to Stefan Padfield, director of the Free Enterprise project at NCPPR."

"It's easy to get riled up at students who break their promises to employers. But here's the thing: They know many companies are doing the exact same thing to students. They've heard about the rescinded offers from Amazon, Coinbase, and Meta that devastated college seniors the past two years. The logistics startup Flexport revoked offers to new hires three days before they were set to start." #Management #HumanResources #HiringAndPromotion #Culture #Leadership #HR #Recruiting #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #EmploymentLaw #Equity #DiversityMatters #DiversityEquityInclusion #DEI #WorkplaceCulture #RepresentationMatters #ESG #ROI #Impactinvesting https://buff.ly/4fAOiXN
