About us
The Division on Addiction is a non-profit research center at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. The mission of the Division is to alleviate addiction-related social, medical, and economic burdens through research, education, training, and outreach. The Division’s research focuses on addiction and its many expressions, including substance-related (e.g., alcohol, opioids) and behavioral (e.g., gambling). Its educational efforts range from primary school curriculum and courses offered through Harvard Medical School’s Continuing Medical Education initiative to international conferences. The work of the Division is made accessible and transparent by its outreach efforts. The BASIS (basisonline.org) reviews and summarizes addiction publications to improve health literacy. Expressions of Addiction (expressionsofaddiction.com) uses the arts to increase the public’s understanding of addiction. The Transparency Project (thetransparencyproject.org) is the first ever public data repository for datasets collected by multidisciplinary addiction researchers working throughout the world. The Division’ is committed to providing focused, clinical and research training opportunities for students, interns, fellows, visiting faculty and other professionals. The primary purpose of of this page is to share the Division’s work and advance its mission.
