In their new Forefront article, Anjali Dixit, Pooja Lagisetty, and Sean Mackey from Stanford University and the University of Michigan discuss how there is an urgent need for the research and clinical communities to understand medication-managed opioid use disorder (OUD) as a long-term, chronic condition, and to develop best practices to concurrently treat acute pain and OUD. "Recent policy interventions to overcome barriers to use of MOUD portend a rising number of patients who will use MOUD on a long-term basis and will inevitably require other types of health care, including specialty and surgical care, in their lifetimes. The use of MOUD in a surgical setting, or in any other setting in which acute pain is expected, poses a clinical challenge." Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/3VZO9FI
