I remember asking my boss to edit my boss to edit my 1st sizzle reel. I just wanted to a SHOT to show my skills. He said NO! He said I wasn't ready. I felt HOPELESS! The next day -- I QUIT! I knew, I had to take my career in my OWN HANDS. That was in 2011. And that was the beginning of DLG Creative #freelancers #freelance #creativeagency #creative #creativeservices #creativedirector #video #editor #career

The biggest leap of faith happens when a creative director hires a new freelance editor. Why? Because directors are artists and they're sensitive about their $hit. There's a vision that they're hoping you can bring to life. On time. Within budget. And without needing to hold hands. It's never about my vision. It's always about how I can fulfilled theirs. Think different.

Do you want to be in the top 1%? Here's the mindset you need to get there. Before you can be great, you have to be good. Before you can be good, you have to be bad. Before you can be bad, you have to try. You have to try. There's no other way. And if you can embrace the friction of being bad at the beginning... The sky is the limit. So start your engine. Put the pedal to the floor. And give yourself a shot today. Just Be Creative.

Here's the #1 question you should ask a creative director during an interview. They love this one! ❤️ When you meet with a creative director or a show runner for a gig, most of the convo will be about the show, upcoming deadlines and workflow. As you get to the end of the conversation, they typically ask: do you have any questions? This is where you ask: 👉🏾 How do you want to feel at the end of our time together on this project? After you ask this question STFU and turn your listening ears on. Their answer is WHY they're hiring you. Their answer becomes your top priority. Yeah, you gotta be able to do what they're hiring you to do. BUT... Their answer to this question is the higher goal to which everything else becomes secondary. Remember this for your next interview. Think Differently.

What's one way to stay creative? Do projects for FREE. I know...I know... You ain't got time to work for free. I feel you. You got bills and responsibilities. So do I... I feel you. But there's always something you can do for free. You can give feedback for free. You can open up your network for free. You can even jump on a call with someone for free! GASP!!! There's always a way to show love. My friend was trying to get his cooking channel more views so he created a bunch of songs about him cooking a different dish. This song was about lasagna. He wanted to make some videos and asked if I could help out. I knew he couldn't afford my rate but I didn't let that stop us from creating. There was something about this project. I just felt like helping a fellow creator get to the next step. Think of all the people who you could help today. Choose 1 person - reach out - and ask if you could help with anything. We're all trying to figure it out! Be Creative. Your Ideas Are Waiting.

What would you do if your follower count went to 0? And it all happened in 1 day. This was the case for friend Rashaun. Not with follower numbers but real people. Rashuan owns a gym in Connecticut called BodyRoc. And Covid hit his gym hard. Rashaun needed to help his members feel safe again. He needed something to encourage them to come back home. That's when he called me. And we started working on this video below. We sat down with a few members and had them talk about their love for BodyRoc. It was great to see a community support a small business. Currently, Rashaun's gym is doing better than ever. And, I played a small roll in helping him stay afloat during a hard time. I love projects like these because helping people tell their story is my calling. It's what I was created to do. We all have a story to tell. I'm here to help you tell yours. Be Creative. Your Ideas Are Waiting.

Let's say you're a hiring manager. What's more valuable in a candidate? A street hustler's mentality or a formal education? This opening line from TI really set the tone for this trailer. All I had to do was make the edit FEEL as BIG as TI. Here's the good news: I had a lot to work with. The dope car scene. The big board room. TI walking into the elevator. What made everything work? My hustler's mentality combined up with all the formal education I've taken to be an editor. So, what's more valuable? A street hustler's mentality or a formal education? You need both to be a dope editor. Be Creative. Your Ideas Are Waiting.
