Forests. Climate. Justice. Uniting with the people of the South against destructive logging

About us

For over 25 years, Dogwood Alliance has mobilized diverse voices to protect Southern forests and communities from destructive industrial logging. Through community and grassroots action, holding corporate and government decision-makers accountable, and catalyzing large-scale conservation, Dogwood advances a twenty-first century society that values standing forests for the many ways they sustain life. The South is the world’s number one source of lumber, paper and wood pellets. Our Southern forests are being destroyed by the large-scale production of these products. Industrial logging in the Southern US accounts for our forests being four times more logged than the rainforests of Brazil. In a time when we are championing forest conservation in other countries, we are ignoring deforestation in our own backyard.

Thank You for Your Support! Our priority right now is the safety and well-being of our team and community partners as we recover from recent extreme weather events in North Carolina and Georgia. 🔹 Ensuring Staff Safety: Several of our staff members have been directly impacted, facing displacement and lack of basic resources. We’re providing emergency funds and extended leave to ensure they have the essentials needed to stay safe and healthy. 🔹 Supporting Community Partners: We’re actively working with partners in the hardest-hit areas, such as the Concerned Citizens of Cook County, who are on the ground providing aid in Adel and Lumber City, GA. 🔹 Asheville Recovery: We’re supporting Hood Huggers International, a key partner in our Asheville homebase, as they lead recovery efforts in the most affected neighborhoods. Your continued support means so much to us. If you’d like to contribute to our recovery efforts, please visit https://lnkd.in/e8fd-RE4

Hurricane Helene left a wake of destruction across the South. It deeply impacted many of the people across our region. Our thoughts and prayers are with families and communities. Western North Carolina, where many Dogwood Alliance staff are based was devastated and we still not heard from some of our people. We will be offline for the week and doing all we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, families and communities.
