About us
At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

While Trump and Musk are destroying the government programs American families rely on, Republicans in Congress are cheering them on while many Democrats are failing to put up a real fight. They work for us, the American people, and it’s time for some answers. This week, our Senators and Representatives are back home in their states and districts for a recess. This gives us a great opportunity to hold their feet to the fire! Go to sc.org/MarchActions to find out how you can fight back.

🛣️ We need to do something about concrete's carbon footprint! 🛣️ Did you know that concrete production and use contributes to an estimated 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions? That's why the Sierra Club is proud to endorse the bipartisan hashtag #IMPACTAct 2.0, which aims to revolutionize & decarbonize cement, concrete & asphalt production in the US. Thank you to Reps. Valerie Foushee (D-NC) and Max Miller (R-OH) for bolstering the competitiveness of clean American manufacturing!

This afternoon, the sad news broke that Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) passed away after a months-long battle with cancer. He was 77. During his two decades in Congress, Griijalva was a champion for our environment and public lands, helping achieve numerous victories for Sierra Club issues. In particular, he worked to permanently fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund, passed the Environmental Justice for All Act, defended the Grand Canyon, and stood up for Tribal rights. https://bit.ly/3DJmfar

Farmers are beginning to feel the financial pinch as the Trump administration moves to cancel funds for projects that were already agreed to. Much of the funding helps farmers with conservation initiatives that boost soil and forest health. Thousands of conservation contracts nationwide have been frozen, and some have been terminated altogether 🔗 https://bit.ly/3DyDZoX ✍️ Juliet Grable

Trump’s EPA just announced 31 dangerous rollbacks, gutting protections against pollution from power plants, vehicles, and fossil fuel industries. This threatens public health, with hundreds of thousands of lives and billions in healthcare costs at stake. https://lnkd.in/gpyYapqF

Today, House Republicans passed legislation that makes dangerous cuts to essential services the American people rely on, dismantles critical environmental protections, and sacrifices the health and safety of American families all to provide bigger handouts and kickbacks to corporate polluters. The continuing resolution approved by the House would codify many of the reckless cuts implemented by Donald Trump and Elon Musk—including shuttering entire government agencies, laying off thousands of career public servants, and limiting access to vital services available everywhere from VA hospitals and the National Parks system—that have been made under the guise of “efficiency” in recent weeks. The government funding measure now moves to the Senate, where it will need 60 votes to pass. In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement: “Once again, we see just how quickly Donald Trump and his allies in Congress will sell out the American people in order to return favors to their corporate polluting and billionaire donors. The cuts outlined in this bill will make our air and water more dirty, our families less safe, and further harm our economy at a time where we’re already seeing the dangerous effects of Trump’s policies. All to give an ever bigger tax cut to corporate polluters. The American people deserve more than this, and the Senate should swiftly reject this measure and pass the truly clean short-term continuing resolution from Senator Murray and Congresswoman DeLauro that will responsibly keep our government open until a deal can be reached.”
