Dollar General is committed to being Here for What Matters for our employees, customers and neighbors as communities work to recover and rebuild in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Today, we donated an additional $1 million to the American Red Cross, bringing our support to more than $1.2 million this year. To date, Dollar General and its Foundations have contributed more than $2 million through various partnerships and initiatives to support disaster relief in 2024. In addition to supporting the Red Cross, we proactively partner with organizations providing immediate relief on the ground such as World Central Kitchen and Feeding America. We are also providing financial support to affected employees through the DG Employee Assistance Foundation, and we are helping schools rebuild and recover through the DG Literacy Foundation’s Beyond Words grant program and the Kids In Need Foundation’s Second Responder® program. A year after enrolling in an adult literacy and education program she moved into her own apartment, gained steady employment and will soon take her drivers’ test. With a goal of one day becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant so that she can assist the elderly and disabled, she continues to steadily progress through each level of her journey while uplifting others around her. “A class without laughter is not a good class!” Janet S. of Richmond, VA has been teaching low-literacy adult basic education (ABE) students to read for over 23 years. “Giving back is how I grew up,” shared Felica H., a store manager in Brownstown, MI. “If you see a need, you address it.” Employees like Felicia and Tobi M., a store manager in Rockwood, MI, embody DG’s mission of #ServingOthers and help put a smile on so many faces of those in need. Each month, Felicia and Tobi rally together with other store employees to collect and donate food, clothing, necessities and school supplies to the Downriver Foster Closet in Wyandotte, MI. To honor their commitment, DG Kindness awarded $1,000 to Downriver Foster Closet to support them in providing basic necessities to children in foster care. Dollar General, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) and Unilever USA hosted Allenbrook Elementary School in Charlotte, North Carolina for the On Track to Read program, which supports education and encourages the community’s love of reading. In partnership with NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and North Carolina native, Dale Earnhardt Jr., nearly 300 pre-K through fifth grade students attended a special book reading, followed by a surprise $50,000 donation to the school through DG’s Reading Revolution program. Thomas S. of Ardmore, OK had just arrived home from his job at the Dollar General Ardmore Distribution Center when shortly thereafter his father alerted him to call 9-1-1 as the house was on fire. While the family made it out safely, the home was a total loss. Thomas applied for and received funds from the Employee Assistance Foundation to aid in rebuilding after the loss. When disasters devastate communities, DG and its employees are there to help, #ServingOthers and working to provide support for those who need it most.
