About us

The Dolores Huerta Foundation is a 501 (c)3 organization on a mission to inspire and organize communities to build volunteer organizations empowered to pursue social justice. DHF organizes at the grassroots level developing natural leaders with hands-on training through collective action working to establish Vecinos Unidos (Neighbors United) chapters in some of the most disenfranchised regions of California. In it’s 15 years DHF has formed chapters in Lost Hills and Cutler-Orosi, with currently active Vecinos Unidos groups in Arvin, Lamont, Weedpatch, Greenfield, and Bakersfield (Kern County) Tulare, Lindsay, and Woodlake (Tulare County) and Caruthers, Sanger and Parlier (Fresno County). Our social justice grassroots organizing work is focused on Education, Health and Safety, LGBTQIA+, Equality and Civic Engagement. DHF is committed to dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline through student and parent training for meaningful engagement and advocacy. DHF works to create healthy, accepting supportive environments for LGBTQIA+ youth and family members by building support networks and safer school climates. Through our integrative voter and Census outreach and education, DHF has been instrumental in passing progressive local and statewide legislation to increase funding for public services.

The Dolores Huerta Foundation is thrilled to announce that a California state bill we co-sponsored to keep students in school, #AB2441, has PASSED the California Assembly! 🎉 If passed and signed into law, #AB2441 will: ✏️ Allow educators the discretion to decide whether to report certain student behaviors to law enforcement, while still having the right to involve law enforcement if they choose to. ✏️ Support students in thriving at school by decreasing law enforcement involvement in certain student behavioral issues. Thank you, Assemblymember @ash_kalra, for authoring this bill with us and our co-sponsors. We are also proud of our multiple co-sponsors who helped pave the way to the bill’s passage.👏👏 ➡️ Next stop: we’re heading to the CA State Senate. Stay tuned!

🌟Highlights of the week!🌟 Last weekend, Dolores was invited to the Larry Itliong Unity Park grand opening in Delano, CA. She had the opportunity to talk about her experience working with Larry Itliong during the movement's early stages. It was amazing to see people's power and being represented. Our youth member, Pricila Cenobio, had the incredible opportunity to represent DHF alongside Central Valley youth, speaking out against budget cuts to CalWorks and other essential safety net programs at the End Child Poverty in California Rally at the State Capitol. We are proud to see our youth advocating for critical issues and fighting for change in their community. We love to see people power! #¡SiSePuede! #EndChildPovertyCA #ECPCA #DHF #Youth
