We Will Never Forget. When a community is grieving it takes everyone to hold one another, to unite, come together to share love and create hope on an unfamiliar path. This is how ALAS and our Coastal community navigated the year after the mass shooting of our beloved farmworkers. We did it together -with all of you- believing in change. This week we did it with the Latino Community Foundation who came together to partner and co create a beautiful vigil and commissioned a beautiful art piece for our campesinos -to light up our community during one of the darkest days. Artist Fernando Escartiz's Corazón del Campesino embraced the love we have for our seven farmworkers. LCF CEO Julian Castro energized our ALAS team with a visit to learn more about the advocacy and work that must continue forward for change. Since day one LCF has been there for us- to hold us up and one year later they stood together with us. Congresswoman Eshoo's fierce commitment to farmworkers and our Coastal community was evident as she led our ALAS roundtable with Cross Sector leaders. Supervisor Ray Mueller, has been a beacon of change, championing a relentless effort to build affordable housing on the Coastside. Representatives from the White House were present and read a special message from President Biden. Governor Newsome's office shared their care for the community along with Chinese and Latino leaders on the front lines of love. We are so thankful for all the organizations and philanthropy leaders that participated in our roundtable- and were the life line of economic support and care. Huge thanks to our City of HMB leaders, City Manager- Matthew Chidister and our City Council who have journeyed with commitment to be there for everyone during such a painful time. Special thanks to Victoria Sanchez De Alba and the journalist that work tirelessly to keep this important story on the front lines- we can't let this end with an anniversary, change must continue. For the past year ALAS has accompanied our farmworkers and on this day we honored them with deep dedication to be there for years to come. We have felt all of YOUR support in so many different ways. We have seen our farmworkers touched by YOUR love. Thanks to all of you for believing in us, for the fight for change, for your advocacy and for your care that gives us wings to keep being on the front lines. Our farmworker community deserves the best every day. They are the backbone of the community and are the best of who we are. We will never forget those that lost their lives and will keep focused on the continued work to be done- con todo corazón. Our Asian and Latino Farmworkers are bound together as one.. Siempre.

As we continue to move past Hispanic Heritage Month, we introduce more of those who complete our extensive ALAS familia!   We will continue introduce you to numerous members of our ALAS familia via our Yo Soy ALAS campaign. It's our goal to recognize many of those that work with us behind the scenes as well as on the frontlines day in and day out through this long overdue initiative.    We are optimistic that it will encourage you to look further into ALAS, who we are, what we do, how we impact our community and most importantly that inspires you to get involved with us in some capacity.    ALAS was born out of the community coming together to embrace a mission to celebrate culture, root care with justice and honor each individual and family we work with. Over the years so many have contributed their love and time to make ALAS the nonprofit of the year! We began with a determination for change and our work continues forward because of all who champion us forward.    We are always looking for more volunteers, allies, advocates, sponsors, donors, and champions. We look forward to welcoming you to our familia!
