Today was another exciting milestone for DIANA, as we were in Halifax to open the North American Headquarters. As Managing Director Deeph Chana PhD Chana said, “Tapping into the North American research and innovation capacity, as well as the commercial and defence markets across the continent. Halifax will play a vital role in strengthening connections and ensuring that this is truly a pan-Alliance innovation endeavour.” DIANA and the Government of Canada also announced the appointment of Major General Paul Peyton as DIANA's Military Deputy Director, North America. He will be instrumental in strengthening pathways between innovative technologies and defence applications in North America, and throughout the Alliance. Alongside London and Tallinn, Halifax will become a key collaboration centre for DIANA. COVE is joining DIANA’s accelerator network to deliver acceleration programming for our incoming innovators. COVE will work with new DIANA innovators beginning in January 2025. Thank you to Minister Sean Fraser, Parliamentary Secretary Marie-France Lalonde, Melanie Nadeau, P.Eng. ICD.D., Phantom Photonics, Viki Lamaye, and DIANA's Canadian board member Philippe Hébert for your participation today. We look forward to growing the North American DIANA presence.

Yesterday DIANA hosted a networking event in London to explore innovation investments, and how DIANA could help to develop a trusted capital network for our dual-use start-ups. Building on similar networking and exploratory discussions in California and Washington D.C., the networking session brought together leaders from VCs, private equity and other funds, as well as partners such as the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF). Participants discussed challenges and opportunities for investing in dual-use companies, how to navigate the line between defence and commercial investing, and the importance of private capital united with public sector programming to improve scalability and de-risk investments in emerging technologies. In the morning session, Christopher Steed, CIO of Paladin Capital Group, described the need to "crowd investments into technologies that can be developed responsibly" and celebrated the potential for "a trusted spider web of investor networks" for responsible technology development. Panellists emphasised that building a strong, resilient and well-capitalised ecosystem requires private sector funds in addition to public sector support. The afternoon workshops explored how a group of likeminded investors—an “Allied Capital Community”—might work, and provided insights into what investors are looking for when they consider investing in dual-use technologies. One attendee said “This shows the power of organisations like DIANA. Bringing these leaders into the room and providing a venue to shape concepts at early stages—this is what community is all about.” We look forward to keeping the conversation going, and continuing to explore new and different ways to support security, defence and resilience throughout the Alliance. Today, DIANA is excited to announce ten companies will move into Phase II of our acceleration programme, receiving additional funding and guidance to boost their commercial and defence adoption success. The ten innovators were part of DIANA's first cohort of 44 companies, which tackled complex defence, security and resilience challenges during an intensive six-month programme earlier this year. 👏Congratulations👏 to: Aquark Technologies Astrolight Dolphin Labs Ocean Ephos Goldilock IONATE Lobster Robotics Phantom Photonics REVOBEAM SECQAI Read the press release below to learn more, and stay tuned for spotlights on each company in the coming weeks.

We’re thrilled to announce that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Sperra a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) project with UC San Diego to develop innovative concrete torpedo anchors for Dolphin Labs Ocean’ xNode(TM) wave energy converter (WEC). This project tackles one of the biggest challenges in the offshore and marine energy industry: scalable, cost-effective mooring and anchoring solutions. By creating low-cost, environmentally friendly torpedo anchors, we’re enabling faster, more efficient WEC deployments. Plus, our anchors can be manufactured in U.S. ports using local materials and workforces. This funding will help us accelerate the adoption of marine hydrokinetic energy, making it a more viable, cost-competitive renewable energy source. #Sperra #WaveEnergy

CalWave Co-Founder and CEO Marcus Lehmann joined panelists from CorPower Ocean, C-Power, Ocean Power Technologies, and ORPC last week during the California Energy Commission public workshop on #SB605. The outputs of SB605 will help guide the state of California on setting #marineenergy policy for years to come. Topics discussed during the panel included: 🌊 Using marine energy to balance out intermittent renewables to minimize total system costs, reduce costs for California ratepayers, and ensure #energyindependence ⚡ Setting a course to scale from open-ocean pilots to grid-connected arrays 🏗 Leveraging investments in the state's offshore wind infrastructure to more effectively scale the marine energy sector We would like to thank AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles for its contributions in advancing the marine energy sector in California, and we look forward to a continued dialogue with the CEC on building this crucial industry.

🌊 Exciting News! 🌊 We are thrilled to announce that Skarv Technologies has signed a collaboration agreement (MoU) with the US companies Dolphin Labs Ocean and SEADAR, working together to realize a system for underwater power, surveillance, intervention, and networking (project name UPSIN). The UPSIN system will integrate the advanced technologies and expertise of the three companies to deliver a comprehensive, remote-operated solution for underwater threat detection and intervention. The system addresses the emerging threat posed by the use of swarms of smaller underwater drones and systems. Key components of the UPSIN system include Dolphin Labs’ persistent, renewable wave power system, the SEADAR underwater radar surveillance system, and Skarv Technologies' autonomous underwater vehicles and imaging systems. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey together! #SkarvTechnologies #DolphinLabsOcean #SEADAR NATO DIANA Read more here:

NATO officially launches new Maritime Centre for Security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure We are pleased to announce NATO has established a new centre dedicated to the security of thousands of miles of undersea energy pipelines and cables, which are vulnerable to attacks aimed at disrupting energy supply, global communications and economic activity. The NATO Maritime Centre for Security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure (CUI) is a networking and knowledge center concentrating on CUI, which assists Commander MARCOM in making decisions, deploying forces and coordinating action. Based at NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) on the outskirts of London in Northwood, UK, the centre has now reached Initial Operational Capability, known as IOC, a significant milestone. “The Norwegian branch organisation Offshore Norge, the gas transport system operator Gassco AS and the Norwegian energy company Equinor ASA, express their appreciation of NATO’s initiative of establishing the Maritime Centre for Security of Critical Undersea Infrastructure." This establishment will further strengthen collaboration around the safeguarding and resilience of critical undersea infrastructure. We extend our gratitude to the contributing nations - 🇩🇰 🇩🇪 🇳🇴 🇵🇱 🇹🇷 🇬🇧 🇺🇸. We're also excited to welcome 🇬🇷 🇵🇹 🇸🇪 to our team soon.
