About us

Drill America specializes in supplying a full line of industrial and contractor cutting tools to distributors across the United States and the world, providing on-time deliveries and technical expertise, helping our customers do their jobs more efficiently, and saving them time and money. Our History Drill America was originally founded in New York City in the early 1900s by our great uncle, Samuel DeWitt. In 1948 our father, Jack Barnett, began running the New York location. From that first New York store, the business has expanded across the United States into a national brand. Pictured below is Jack Barnett in front of DeWitt Tool Co at the old store in SoHo. Drill America is family owned and operated by Jack’s three sons President Marc Barnett and Vice Presidents Richard, and Elliot Barnett. The three brothers have over 100 years of experience in the industry.

UPS Customer First Stories: Drill America: "Like father, like sons, like sons and so on" - Drill America – family owned and operated for four generations and counting... When Jack Barnett’s uncle founded his tool business over a hundred years ago, he didn’t set out to create a family legacy. But through the years, Jack and his sons – Rick, Elliot and Marc – joined the family business, along with grandsons Andrew and Jeremy, and other extended family members. In addition to three generations of Barnetts, there are several other father-and-son teams at Drill America. “The people involved in our company see it as their second home. And, very often, they want to bring on more of their family,” Elliot said. “It's totally organic. We never think about it; it's just what evolved.” With locations in New York and Florida, Drill America supplies industrial and contractor cutting tools to distributors. And they proudly offer UPS one- and two-day shipping to every state in the U.S. “Our partnership with UPS began because it made our lives easier,” Andrew Barnett said. “Here we are 50 years later, and it’s still making our lives better and more efficient.” The team recently partnered with UPS Customer Solutions to completely transform their warehouse processes. In less than a year, they were operating differently and more efficient than ever. Over the years, the Barnetts have received offers to buy the business, but they’ve always declined. “We tell them, no, we're not for sale,” Elliot said. “We want this to go on and on.”

From Pro Tool Reviews: "Best Drill Bits for Metal for 2024" by Clint DeBoer Drill America makes M42 cobalt bits that held up really well in drilling through anything we threw at them. After testing with a multitude of materials, we selected their jobber bits as our best drill bits for hardened steel. The bits feature the expected 135° split point, which gives you a nice, steady, and productive drilling speed. The jobber length bits work perfectly in cordless drills for onsite drilling. They come manufactured to the National Aerospace Standard 907. Because of how hard they are, you can drill up to 30% faster than you can with conventional M2 high-speed steel bits. Drill America also doesn’t grind down the shafts on its larger bits—so you get more rigidity, but you also need a 1/2-inch chuck to drive them. Use these bits when drilling tough, high-tensile strength materials like stainless steel—or even titanium. We opted for the D/A29J-CO-PC kit. It includes 29 bits in a shatterproof case. The round case makes it simple to remove the exact bit you need.
