To anyone with insight or experience working on issues related to freedom of expression in Japan, please consider submitting a public comment to the Oversight Board's new case on political speech, censorship, and incitement to violence. The case covers online political statements made against the Japanese prime minister—notably, it's their first case based in Japan, along with the first to focus on Threads. A central part of the Board’s decision-making process is reviewing public comments submitted by key stakeholders including human rights activists, researchers, political analysts, and interested organizations. These comments will provide the necessary insights to empower Board members in making well-informed decisions and recommendations regarding this case. Had an energizing discussion last week at the Japan Society with Japanese Vice Minister Akihisa Shiozaki, Linda Kirkpatrick, President of the Americas at Mastercard, and Joshua Walker, President & CEO of the Japan Society. The conversation was particularly relevant for our Duco community, as we have seen an uptick in interest in Japan and continue to assist tech companies with partnerships, market entry, and geopolitical risks—very exciting time for collaboration. Following Prime Minister Kishida's visit, the Business & Policy Forum showcased the optimistic outlook and commitment of both countries towards a collaborative future. We explored the transformative impacts of AI, discussing the vast potential for technological cooperation between Japan and the US, which is not only reshaping our industries but also strengthening our bilateral ties and maintaining our competitive edge. I want to thank the Japan Society and Joshua Walker for organizing such a terrific event. For anyone interested in Japan, business, and innovation, I highly recommend following their work!
