“The beginning of the time”. We had the opportunity to present our study on early biomarkers of retinal degeneration in children at SPRV in Florida. Our goal is to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and intervention for inherited retinal diseases (IRDs). We are excited to announce that Lejla Vajzovic, MD, FASRS, Professor of Ophthalmology, was a lead investigator and Duke a lead site for the clinical trial that supported the recent FDA clearance of a cutting-edge multimodal, diagnostic platform that will help expand imaging access to patients who cannot be imaged with traditional tabletop OCT devices. We are now able to use this indispensable diagnostic tool for patients in a supine position, which allows detection of macular and optic nerve pathologies and ensures that these vulnerable individuals receive timely, sight-saving treatments. Thrilled to be among the first U.S. retina surgeons using Alcon’s groundbreaking Unity VCS in the operating room, marking an exciting step in real-world experience ahead of the 2025 launch. These upgrades truly represent a major leap forward for retinal surgery, with the potential to significantly transform patient care!
