The Duke Community is still reeling from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene across our state. In this heartfelt tribute, Duke University Chorale performs "The Road Home" by Stephen Paulus in honor of the colleges and universities of western North Carolina. After watching the ongoing disaster unfold, the Duke Chorale sends this song to all of those impacted by tragic events across the region, including the sibling singers in the schools of Western North Carolina. Directed by Allan Friedman and accompanied by Mary Hamilton, this performance is meant to provide comfort and strength on the road to recovery and rebuilding. Duke Health teams are joining the effort to provide care and relief to residents of Western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The Duke State Medical Assistance Team deployed over the weekend and several additional colleagues are volunteering on the ground. In the Triangle-area, additional teams are providing support for patients who live in the impacted area to ease access to transportation, pharmacy supplies and other needs. Eddie Buffaloe, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, visited Duke earlier this month to meet with students and discuss his career in public service. Since 2021, Secretary Buffaloe has served as the Governor's Homeland Security Advisor and sole representative on the Governor’s cabinet for the state’s law enforcement, homeland security coordination, juvenile justice, and emergency management responsibilities. We are grateful for Secretary Buffaloe's willingness to engage with students and share about his experiences. #ncpol #DukeinNC

Duke University’s Duke's Office for Translation & Commercialization, which is responsible for managing Duke-owned intellectual property (IP) and supporting Duke inventors, has released its fiscal year 2024 annual metrics. From groundbreaking therapies to new materials, OTC also celebrates 100 years of innovations from Duke inventors as part of the Duke Centennial. In FY24, OTC brought in $82.6 million in revenue, the result of Duke inventions making it to industry and the market. OTC received 302 new invention disclosures, entered into 63 total agreements, submitted 428 patent applications, and was issued 94 patents. Flooding plagues the small North Carolina town of Creswell. A team of Duke University students spent the summer gathering data to help the town become more resilient. https://lnkd.in/gBx6dKmb The students worked closely with the Town of Creswell and North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resiliency (NCORR).
