We enjoyed working with Jim Brown and Tech-Clarity, Inc. on their latest eBook, 'Reconsidering the Centralized Digital Thread.' Jim's write-up asks the important question—is it time to rethink PLM’s role in managing the digital thread and move beyond the idea of “a single source of truth”? Well worth a read to kick your week off 👇
Have we been chasing the illusion of a single, integrated system that contains all product digital thread data? For a long time, the goal has been to create “a single source of truth for product data” and PLM was the solution we believed would get us there. It was a good direction to follow, but could we ever really get there? And should have expected to? Now, three things have become clear from our research and our conversations with manufacturers: 1️⃣ Developing and maintaining a holistic, integrated digital thread is still an important goal and incredibly valuable to the business 2️⃣ There are a variety of enterprise systems and tools required to design and develop a product, and these solutions contain some portion of a product’s digital thread data 3️⃣ The digital thread must expand further into the product lifecycle, including manufacturing, operations, and service Given this, it’s time to consider whether to evolve PLM’s role from a single source of truth to a solution that orchestrates the digital thread instead of capturing it. We explored this idea and discussed it with some engineering and manufacturing leaders to get their perspective. We look forward to hearing your thoughts, as well. We’re proud to have been a partner in the Google Cloud booth at #IMTS2024, showcasing the power of AI in manufacturing. It was a great opportunity to demonstrate how AI and PLM can help manufacturers unlock the full potential of their data to drive real business results. Thanks to Fabien and the entire team for having us!
For the first time, we proudly showcased our manufacturing solutions at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago. It was a great opportunity to take our customers and attendees on a technology tour showcasing the importance of making data accessible and useful. Our theme was "Put Google AI to work”. We want to help manufacturers understand the value levers they can pull to capitalize on their existing systems and the AI momentum. Help them start building today, moving beyond the ‘hype’ to delivering business results. Our booth covered a few important topics today like AI data foundations, security, and workforce processes, with exciting demos presented by Googlers and our partners. I would like to thank our Google team as well as our partners that helped deliver a great experience. Time to value (TTV) is an essential metric for assessing the effectiveness of your PLM implementation. It measures the time it takes from the installation to when your engineers begin fully utilizing the system to manage data, collaborate on designs, and make informed sourcing decisions. When your PLM system takes months to deploy, you risk increased costs, potential team fatigue and resistance to change as well as lost agility in product development. Duro's latest blog, written by guest author Michael Finocchiaro covers exactly how to measure TTV, its role in improving ROI and how Duro helps you accelerate timelines.
