Let’s Celebrate Crystal’s Journey to Stability!🎉 Crystal from Region 7 (Shreveport), although nervous, entered our Rapid Re-Housing program in February 2023. This program provides time-limited case management and rental assistance to people with mental health conditions who are experiencing homelessness. Embracing a Housing First approach, we prioritize swift housing placement without imposing pre-conditions like poor credit or criminal records. By March 2023, Crystal had moved into her apartment with a clear set of ambitions: securing full-time employment, returning to school, saving for a car, and settling her eviction before 2024. Since then, Crystal has made significant strides, re-enrolling in school as a surgical tech, saving up for and purchasing a car, landing a full-time job, and successfully clearing her eviction. Scheduled to receive her certificate from Bossier Community College in December 2024, Crystal's achievements highlight our commitment at Easterseals Louisiana to support our participants' goals and implement strategies that foster long-term sustainability. #DisabilityPride #EastersealsLouisiana #Easterseals #HomeForAll #NewBeginnings #ADA34 #ADAAnniversary

Enormous strides for change from Jude in Region 3 (Thibodaux)!👏 Jude, a recent East St. John graduate🎓 on the autism spectrum, is passionate about advocating for inclusive secondary education within the disability community. Reflecting on his high school experience, Jude shared, “In high school, there wasn’t always a lot of inclusion. I am just a regular kid, and students like me deserve some normalcy in school.” During high school, Jude attended the Youth Leadership Forum ✒️(YLF), a leadership camp for individuals with disabilities, and this year, he joined the camp staff. The camp focuses on Disability Pride, Self-Advocacy and Leadership, Disability History, and Culture and includes visits to the State Capitol. Jude is also the youngest graduate of his Partners in Policymaking🏅 training. This six-month program equips individuals with disabilities and parents of young children with the essential knowledge to navigate the system, including waiver programs and IEPs. The program empowered Jude with the skills necessary for effective advocacy to influence public policy at all levels of government, significantly boosting his confidence to speak in front of legislators about the pressing issues of disability inclusion in secondary education. Currently, Jude attends Nicholls Bridge to Independence. The Easterseals Louisiana team and Jude’s loved ones are incredibly proud of him and excited about all the goals he will achieve.🌟 “We still have a lot of work to do for the disabled community, and it’s Disability Pride Month, so we must continue moving forward and getting stronger,” said Jude. #EastersealsLouisiana #ADA34 #ADAAnniversary #DisabilityPrideMonth
