700 million people around the world are at risk from tsunamis. Due to the combined effects of coastal population increases and rising sea levels, that number is only set to grow. Barriers, both man-made and natural, are key to the safety of coastal communities. Mangrove trees act as a natural buffer against sea surges and cyclones by absorbing and dissipating the energy from incoming waves. Mangrove belts several meters wide have been shown to decrease tsunami wave height by between 5% and 30%. Wide, dense mangrove strips can also limit the area flooded by tsunamis, tempering after-effects. Unfortunately, these vital trees are under threat from overexploitation and human development. You can make a difference by supporting mangrove planting projects via your business with Ecodrive. Learn how at https://lnkd.in/gHmzXr64 P.s. Did we mention that mangroves are some of the most effective carbon-capturing ecosystems on Earth? Wherever we call home, we all feel the benefit of mangrove trees.

Over the last century, deforestation caused by cattle ranching has significantly impacted Hawaii’s landscapes. Large areas of native forests have been cleared to make way for pastureland, disrupting ecosystems that once supported rich biodiversity. This deforestation has had negative effects on wildlife, with many native species losing their habitats and declining in population, and on our planet, with less and less carbon captured from the atmosphere. Our Hawaii planting projects focus on the rejuvenation of these landscapes. The Koa trees we are planting have been shown to be highly effective at carbon sequestration, with estimates of up to 60 metric tons of carbon per hectare stored in mature forests. The planting of trees will help to rebuild habitats for native wildlife, stabilize soil to prevent erosion, and reduce the impacts of flooding and landslides. In addition to environmental benefits, reforestation projects create opportunities for local communities through conservation jobs and eco-tourism, while also preserving the cultural and spiritual connection that native Hawaiians have with their land. We’re proud to be making a difference on these special islands. Learn how you and your business can too by sending us a message today! 🌳

🌲🌲🌲 Getting our hands (and our hats) dirty in Cariboo, BC. During the summers of 2017, 2018 and 2021, British Columbia was devastated by wildfires blazing through over 1.3 million hectares of land. Fires reached heights and temperatures intense enough to kill the forest, scarring the soil and leaving behind damaged ecosystems that have struggled to recover. Local wildlife’s habitats were destroyed, and Indigenous communities also lost their traditional hunting range and food sources, their way of life heavily impacted. It’s estimated that it will take approximately 13 million trees and many years to restore Cariboo to its former glory. We’re working on it. One seed at a time. Ecodrive enables you to support restoration efforts by planting a tree with every sale your business makes. 🔗 Learn how, and begin making an impact now, via https://lnkd.in/gHmzXr64 — In partnership with the amazing veritree and Zanzibar 🌲🌲🌲

While many of our partners support the planting of mangroves all around the world, today, we can’t not think about those very same trees that line our coast here in the US. In a recent post, Alex Schulze reminded us about the role that mangroves play in protecting our shorelines from impact caused by natural events like hurricanes. Known as shoreline protectors, mangroves use their powerful root system to withstand strong winds while protecting coastlines from storm action. But what happens when their root systems are full of plastic and debris? As our feed is full of images of destruction and loss, we’re reminded of the importance of keeping our ocean clean. That’s why we’re grateful to partner with 4ocean PBC and support their work in cleaning up debris, ghost nets and further taking care of those vulnerable mangrove forests in the state of Florida. As a team, our thoughts go out to those that were impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
