A national network of funders working to advance economic equity and opportunity in the United States.
About us
Established in 1992, Economic Opportunity Funders is a network of national, regional and local level funders working to advance economic equity and opportunity in the United States. We believe in building an economy that works for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, immigration status, education, income, religion, gender identity, disability or age. We support a strong public sector and policies that create a healthy, fair and just economy where opportunity and prosperity are broadly shared. EOF focuses its work in three key and intersecting areas: poverty and opportunity, protecting and supporting workers, and tax and budget policies. We provide a platform for funders to share information, exchange ideas and best practice, and collaborate around identified areas of interest.

The Tax Equity Funders Network turns 20 years old this year! In this piece, we look back at the changes in our Network (name change last year, growth in membership, and process changes -- when we first launched we gathered RSVPs for meetings via fax machine 😂) as well as the incredible impact philanthropy has had on the growth and modernization of tax credits and the improvements in tax systems. Philanthropy's work in this space improves the lives of millions of low- and moderate-income families each year. While we are gratified by the progress, we are not satisfied. More work ahead! Every day, we rely on the federal government in ways we might not even realize—whether it’s ensuring our food and water are safe, keeping air travel secure, or responding to natural disasters. These essential services are made possible by skilled, nonpartisan federal employees who work tirelessly to serve the public interest. However, recent proposals threaten to undermine this system by allowing presidents and political appointees to arbitrarily fire qualified civil servants, which could compromise the quality and responsiveness of government services. Our government isn’t perfect, but rather than tearing it down, we should focus on modernizing it. At the Partnership for Public Service, we’ve identified five key priorities to improve government performance: 1. Develop better government leaders 2. Make it easier to hire and keep great public servants 3. Hold poor performers accountable 4. Unleash the power of data and tech to achieve better public outcomes 5. Provide efficient, customer-friendly services to the people These reforms are critical to restoring trust in our government and ensuring it serves everyone, regardless of political beliefs. A nonpartisan civil service is fundamental to this vision. Let’s focus on constructive solutions that strengthen our government’s ability to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. People power social change. Those most affected by failing early childhood systems often make the most impactful leaders, yet developing the confidence and resilience to lead requires dedicated mentoring and time. What works? Grassroots organizers in Ohio are expanding a Child Care Leadership Lab model, in collaboration with Community Change and Child Care for Every Family Network to cultivate at least 250 new child care provider leaders across 10 states (NM, MN, MI, CA, DC, OH, CO, OR, LA, IL) to be leaders in the movement. Join ECFC and The Raising Child Care Fund for discussion with Ohio Organizing Collaborative and Community Change to learn directly from graduates and trainers of the Child Care Leadership Lab model, and hear lessons and experiences coming from this new approach. Leave with ideas about how to build leaders in your own community. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gavQxYmu
