Please welcome Jim Bride, ecoRI News' new (and first ever) director of development. Jim comes to our newsroom with leagues of experience in the nonprofit sector, having worked in development and executive roles at many New England environmental nonprofits, including Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust, Sippican Lands Trust, Monadnock Conservancy, and WESTPORT RIVER WATERSHED ALLIANCE INC. He hails from New Bedford, Mass., but isn't afraid to cross state lines. And he spent many years living in Rhode Island, so he has all the required insider knowledge — Del's, pizza strips, stuffies, and where Benny's "used to be."

What would compel ecoRI News senior reporter and co-founder Frank Carini to put on a suit and tie? Only a special invitation. U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has invited Frank to be his guest at the State of the Union address in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. The invitation from Whitehouse was in recognition of Frank's column, "A Frank Take." “Frank’s clear-eyed writing on the dangers climate change poses to the Ocean State should be essential reading," Whitehouse said. "He has fearlessly called out the fossil fuel industry’s attempts to mislead Rhode Islanders and, along with his wife Joanna, created an outlet for exceptional investigative reporting on local environmental issues." The staff and board of ecoRI News are honored on behalf of Frank, and we are thrilled this talented and humble journalist is being honored for his extraordinary work.
