Beginning last September, Ecotrust partnered with several organizations to host a series of gatherings, called the "Restoration through Storytelling Series," that continued into the spring of this year. Now on our blog, see the moments captured across the four events and hear from the speakers about the power of storytelling. See the full photo essay at https://lnkd.in/gmXWMPgV As the recipient of the Partners in Conservation grant awarded by East Multnomah County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Restoration Through Storytelling series was designed to elevate ancestral innovation and agricultural wisdom of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) through a series of gatherings within East Multnomah County. Tremendous thanks to the community for being a part of the series. Our host sites were Black Futures Farm, Oxbow Regional Park, June Key Delta Community Center, and the Historic Alberta House (home of Vanport Mosaic). Ecotrust is addressing the racial wealth gap by promoting economic equity and supporting values-driven business ownership among historically disadvantaged communities. At the heart of this effort is the Redd on Salmon Street, a food hub in Portland that provides essential infrastructure and support for food entrepreneurs who nourish our communities. With additional funding, we're also increasing Oregon’s capacity for Indigenous fishers and foodmakers by building out kitchen space to process, store, and package regional seafood products. Join us in our mission to break down barriers and support the region’s food businesses led by communities of color. We are so happy to announce that Jenny Tseng joined us this June! Here's Jenny in her own words: "At Ecotrust, I am the Farm to School Fellow. Throughout my one-year fellowship, I will be supporting schools and early childhood sites in building relationships and knowledge on local and culturally relevant foods, as well as helping them integrate hands-on learning about food systems. I recently graduated from UC Berkeley, where I supported the university’s food pantry, researched school meal reform in collaboration with Oakland Unified School District, and helped start and lead the university’s first outdoors club for BIPOC students. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking for others and spending time in nature."

Join us in building a future where economic transformation also safeguards ocean health and coastal communities. In Alaska, Ecotrust is part of a multi-partner effort to create a sustainable mariculture industry through the farming of seaweed and kelp. With our partners, we're building hubs for mariculture production that model ecological and economic resilience for Indigenous coastal communities, and we're also planning for similar mariculture opportunities in Oregon and Washington. With your support, let's uplift this industry that honors Indigenous wisdom, promotes resilience, protects our oceans, and drives sustainable growth for future generations. Donate today. The Office of Public Engagement staff invited our Food Systems Equity Community Outreach Coordinator Alisha Howard to the Farmers and Ranchers in Action event held Tuesday October 8th, at the White House. This event gave participants an opportunity to lift up the impacts of the Biden-Harris Administration’s investments in agriculture. Folks from across the U.S. joined Secretary Tom Vilsack and other Biden-Harris Administration officials to discuss priorities, ask questions, and advocate for a better future in agriculture. The event was followed by an afternoon of programming at USDA with an address from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small emphasizing the commitment of USDA to farmers in urban and rural communities.
