Fire management is critical to landscape restoration success. In Honduras' Cinturón Verde project, we've developed integrated fire prevention systems to protect essential watershed forests following the severe 2024 fire season. Our approach combines traditional knowledge, technology, and community engagement to reduce risk and build resilience. It's March already! And the days are feeling warmer. At Eden: People+Planet we are moving as fast as we can in terms of wildfire prevention in the central pine forests of Honduras. Hundreds of meters of firebreaks are being built to protect natural regeneration, young forests and our own plantations. After these works, these firebreaks must be maintained and surveillance must be initiated at strategic sites to prevent damage from wildfires.

In Mozambique, Eden: People+Planet partners with 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 and local communities to restore forests through holistic landscape restoration. At the Gotogoto nursery in Pheza, community members cultivate indigenous tree seedlings adapted to the region's miombo woodlands. The Chimanimani landscape spans 206,000 hectares and faces significant ecological challenges, with over 47,200 hectares of tree cover lost since 2000. Here you can see the remarkable transformation that four years of mangrove growth has brought to a restored area in Kichwa Cha Nyoka, Kenya. 🌳 Earlier this year, we introduced another band of mangroves to the site, leveraging the microclimate effect created by the mature four-year-old saplings. We developed this approach, known as the "Mangrove Caregiver strategy", by observing patterns of natural regeneration in healthy forests. By using established mangroves to provide a nurturing environment for young trees, Eden enhances their chances of survival and growth in severely degraded areas. By restoring and expanding mangrove forests, we not only strengthen these ecosystems but also create sustainable benefits for surrounding communities and the planet as a whole. #Mangroves #TreePlanting #Restoration #Conservation #Sustainability #TreeGrowth

Earlier this year, planters from the Sindhupalchowk District were carrying seedlings from our nursery to the Kipche plantation site, ready with their traditional doko baskets. With 19 species of trees—74% being native—planting seedlings is a community effort that affects the entire surrounding ecosystem. Restoration efforts in Nepal bring together the community + help foster long-term ecological and socio-economic benefits. 🌎 #Restoration #Nepal #TreePlanting #Conservation #Seedlings

Our planet moves with the natural cycles of rainy and dry seasons. In Chimanimni, our recent monitoring shows how these cycles, alongside climate change, shape the community's traditions and connections. 💧 Rain-making ceremonies unite the people of Chimanimani, reducing conflict and strengthening bonds. The ceremonies, which used to take place in July and August, have shifted to September in recent years. With shifting seasons and ceremonies now held later than before, we ask the question, "How will climate change impact community cohesion in the future?" As we continue to partner with communities and stakeholders on restoration efforts in this area, addressing this question remains a key priority. 🌳 #Restoration #ClimateChange #Sustainability #RainySeason #Conservation
