One of the biggest concerns we hear from organizations interested in LGBTQ+ work is the fear of saying the wrong thing. But communication goes beyond the words we use—its about the framing, biases, and assumptions we may not even realize are there. It’s essential for organizations to take a step back and review communication as a whole. From your website language to survey design, every touchpoint is an opportunity to create inclusive experiences for LGBTQ+ individuals 🏳️🌈. It’s finally happened! 🥹 Thrilled to share news of our R01 out of University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing being funded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). Our team will examine the efficacy of Parents ASSIST, a family communication intervention for parents with gay sons.🏳️🌈 This idea started as an F31 dissertation eight years ago. With the nurturing support of parents and community partners, Antonia M. Villarruel, PhD, RN, FAAN and Jose Bauermeister, it’s going to be an exciting five-year study! Thankful to all the folks who have been part of this journey with special shout-out to my husband James Wolfe for ALL THE THINGS. ❤️
