About us

El Buen Samaritano is an outreach ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas committed to helping Latino and other families in Central Texas lead healthy, productive and secure lives through high-quality and affordable health-care, education and food assistance services. We provide a gathering place where people of all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds learn and serve together in a community of mutual trust and respect. The community is vibrant and filled with a rich cultural tradition. We encourage the growth and empowerment of those we serve, so they may fully participate in their own development and increase their capacity to be leaders and contributors to their families and the community. The people engaged with El Buen Samaritano—participants, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders—work and learn in a mutually respectful and inclusive environment. Billy first became involved with El Buen in the summer of 2008, volunteering in our ESL program. Inspired by his friends in Mexico who wanted to learn English, Billy’s commitment to helping others has grown over the years. In addition to teaching ESL, he has also volunteered in Digital Literacy, Plazas Comunitarias, and English Conversation classes. Billy believes his volunteer work has positively impacted individuals by boosting their confidence, helping them navigate their daily lives, and improving their English language skills. As Billy says, “Life works better when you’re bilingual—it gives you a better chance at success.” Thank you, Billy, for your unwavering dedication and the countless hours you’ve spent empowering our community. We are deeply grateful for your continued support and commitment to making a difference.

El Buen is celebrating a monumental milestone! Today, we mark Dr. Rosamaria Murillo’s five-year anniversary as our fearless CEO — five years of visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to social justice, and remarkable impact on Central Texas. Affectionately known as Dr. M by her staff, she joined El Buen at a pivotal moment in our history. Shortly after Dr. M accepted the call to lead El Buen, she faced the unimaginable challenges of the pandemic. She stepped up to the challenge, guiding El Buen and our community with grace and courage. Her love language is “resources” and, guided by that, she secured millions of dollars to serve our neighbors. Dr. M invested this critical funding directly into the community and the many partner organizations that, like El Buen, were bearing the weight of the pandemic. Dr. M is a force of love, joy, and hope for our beloved community. She inspires everyone around her to believe that the impossible is possible. She loves to surprise staff with her “Manager Specials” – unexpected solutions and creative ideas that keep us moving forward and advance our mission. Thank you, Dr. M, for your tireless work, your love for us all, and your vision for a thriving and equitable future. Here’s to many more years of transformative leadership and community impact.“ Avanzando Futuros!”
