SOUND THE ALARM 🚨 and SHARE! To GOD Be The Glory! It’s been over a year of being in a federal court case and now it’s finally dismissed! A few things that need to be clarified: 1. This is a WIN and positive outcome for the Fearless Fund and our community. 2. The US federal court of appeals stopped the Fearless Strivers grant program for Black women on June 3rd ruling suggesting we were in violation of the law. This program has not been operating since it entered the appeals process back in September 2023 and it was at its conclusion of the grant program when the court case began August 2023, it was designed to award 6 people in one year and it was at its end when the case began. 3. We strategically avoided a Supreme Court ruling (the deadline to appeal our appeal has passed) because a ruling not in our favor at the Supreme Court would’ve ended minority based funding across the country and that would not be wise, we have already seen the Supreme Court ruling for the colleges end affirmative action for all colleges in schools and admissions. 4. Elections have consequences, we have had 3 federal rulings in this process where 4 Trump appointed judges ruled against us, 2 Clinton and 1 Obama appointed judges ruled for us. The writing is on the wall of who wants this work to continue and who does not. Be sure to vote November 5th! 5. This work is important because the statistics for the underfunded are overwhelming and this is why we have invested millions of dollars and awarded grants to over 500. 6. Any false narrative floating that anyone is claiming we are not moving forward at the Fearless Fund is not true, what is true is that we are proud to announce our new debt fund (our loan program is live on our website) for under resourced entrepreneurs- male and female! 7. The one grant program the US appeals courts stopped was funding 6 entrepreneurs, this new program will touch over 3000 entrepreneurs, that sounds like a WIN to me. WE ARE STILL FUNDING WE ARE STILL FEARLESS! #FEARLESSFREEDOM

  • Myavana Founder Candace Mitchell once struggled to raise funding, but staying the course has led her to close a multi-million-dollar round. Mitchell, who attended Georgia Institute of Technology and obtained a bachelor’s degree in computer science, launched Myavana with a $1,000 investment from her checking account and had a mission to improve hair care for Black women, as AfroTech previously reported. “Originally, my ‘why’ was really to provide a more personalized approach for people to really be seen and heard in the beauty industry,” Mitchell said in an interview with AfroTech. “Because, at the time, there were not many products catered to women of color or textured hair. And it just felt like it was just a huge oversight, and we were just kinda out there figuring it out on YouTube. I feel that hair is deeply connected to our purpose and identity, especially in Black culture. So my ‘why’ was just really deeply rooted in people understanding who they are and also having the technology that could cater to our personalized journeys.” Read more https://lnkd.in/eX3qasTh #ThoughtLeadership #BlackFounders #BlackCulture

  • Despite the perceived backlash against diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts, DEI does not appear to be going away. Organizations are either doubling down or others who were never serious to begin with might be abandoning it altogether, studies show. - Ninety-seven percent of companies have at least one DEI initiative. - Eighty-five percent have a dedicated DEI budget. - Eighty-two percent of U.S. organizations are measuring the business impacts of DEI. - Seventy-eight percent prioritized DEI more than the previous year, with 45% foreseeing increasing their DEI budget in the next financial year (up from 35% in 2023) “Even with DEI backlash, the imperative has not changed. The U.S. is becoming more diverse, and businesses need to stay relevant globally,” said Craig Welsh, head of traditional and non-traditional distribution at Westfield Insurance. • As hundreds of athletes from around the world gathered in Paris last month, a smaller gathering of entrepreneurs was happening, spearheaded by Pharrell Williams. Two Atlanta-based founders were part of the group, dining with Williams and other executives of the luxury group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, connecting with former Olympians, billionaire investors and French entrepreneurs. The trip to Paris was paid for and organized by Black Ambition, a nonprofit initiative founded by Williams in 2020 based on the premise that ambition is limitless, but access is not. It invests in Black, Hispanic and HBCU founders, provides mental health support for entrepreneurs and connects them to potential corporate sponsors and future investors.
