Praying for the family and friends
REMEMBERING KIAH DUGGINS Kiah Duggins was an amazing woman who did so much in her short life, and she deserves to be remembered. Sadly, she was one of the people who passed away in the tragic plane crash in Washington, D.C. But even though she’s no longer with us, we want to make sure her memory lives on and honour all she achieved. Kiah was only 30 years old, but she had already done incredible things. She came from Wichita, Kansas, and worked really hard to graduate from Harvard Law School, where she became the president of a special group that helps people in need. She cared deeply about helping those who are often overlooked or treated unfairly. She was also chosen for something very special called a Fulbright grant, which allowed her to go to Taiwan to teach. That’s a big achievement! Kiah came to @cocoagirlmag attention when she gave a Ted Talk in 2017, she shared her story about beauty standards and colourism. When she was a little girl, she dreamed of being a princess but was told by a friend that princesses didn’t look like her. This experience didn’t stop Kiah—she worked hard and even became a top ten finalist in the Miss Kansas beauty pageant. She was one of the people that inspired the @cocoagirlmag princess ball where over 250 girls were able to be princesses for the day. This autumn, Kiah was going to start teaching at Howard University Law School, where she would have inspired many more students. Kiah was a true visionary who always worked to make the world a better place. Rest in peace, Kiah. You were exceptional, and we won’t forget you.
