Today, in partnership with the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators, Ellie Fund hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness event at the Massachusetts State House. It was a moving event that opened with legislators sharing their personal connections to the disease and their commitment to increasing access to equitable breast cancer treatment. The event included an expert panel that discussed the barriers to breast cancer treatment and offered concrete solutions to ensure all breast cancer patients in Massachusetts can access and complete their breast cancer treatment. The panel, moderated by Meredith Mendelson, Executive Director of the Ellie Fund, featured: Michele Lopez, MHA Lopez – Survivor and Advocate, Black and Pink Network Support Member Dr. Steven Isakoff – Director of Breast Cancer Clinical Research and Medical Oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital Mark W. Kennedy, MBA – Boston Public Health Commission, Black and Pink Support Network Cheryl Whetstone – Patient Grants Specialist at the Ellie Fund Thank you, Senator Liz Miranda, Representative Christine Barber, Representative Jessica Giannino and Representative Lindsay Sabadosa, for sharing remarks at the event. We sincerely thank all of the legislators and staff who joined us in person and virtually. Lastly, thank you Seble Lebeza Alemu, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators, and all of the Caucus members for hosting our organization. Ellie Fund is grateful for your partnership.

Supporting Patients, Funding Care, Providing Hope
About us
The Ellie Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that fights breast cancer and eases its effects on patients and families by providing transportation to medical appointments, childcare, housekeeping, groceries, and nutritious prepared/delivered meals free of charge to hundreds of women and family members across Massachusetts each year. Our support services are offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, friends, donors and sponsors. All of our services are provided by caring, licensed professionals. Our History: The Ellie Fund was founded by brothers Jeff and Eliot Popkin in 1995 to honor their mother’s courageous nine year fight for hope and her giving spirit that touched everyone she knew throughout her life. A Newton, Massachusetts resident for more than thirty years, Ellie volunteered at the local library and visited children with terminal illnesses at Childrens Hospital, was a Den Mother for the local Boy Scouts of America, an active member of Hadassah, and a beloved pre-school teacher. Community engagement is a critical part of Ellie Fund’s work. We want Massachusetts residents to know at diagnosis that Ellie Fund is here to support them regardless of their financial status. Ellie Fund is proudly participating in Boston’s Open Street Initiative throughout the summer and fall. Our staff and volunteers are connecting with Boston residents and working to make Ellie Fund a household name. We intend for people to know of Ellie Fund services as a resource before or immediately after diagnosis in order to avoid treatment delays. Delays in treatment lead to worse outcomes. #BreastCancer #HealthEquity

On Sunday, August 18, Team Ellie joined 11,000+ runners on the scenic 7-mile Falmouth Road Race course. Decked out in pink, their positivity and determination were felt at every mile marker! Their incredible fundraising efforts raised $120,000 and we are still counting. The funds will help provide services for 2,000 breast cancer patients and their families in 2024. Thank you to all of our runners, their donors, and our sponsors Direct Federal Credit Union, T. Jazelle, and The Break Restaurant and Bar. WCVB Channel 5 Eyeopener viewers got a Wake Up Call from part of Team Ellie this morning! https://lnkd.in/gvYyr9YK

This Sunday, 73 runners are lacing up for the Falmouth Road Race as part of Team Ellie! Each runner has their own personal reason for running and fundraising for our breast cancer patients. Ellie Fund founder Jeff Popkin, and siblings Shannon, Hannah, Meaghan, and John Cullen are dedicating their seven-mile runs to their mothers. Meet our runners and please consider helping us reach our goal of $150,000! https://lnkd.in/ei7uMwTx

As part of National Community Health Center Week, Ellie Fund is recognizing the critical work done by the 52 Community Health Centers in Massachusetts to address health inequities. Their 50+ year history focused on bringing healthcare services to underserved communities in Massachusetts is one to be celebrated! We are proud of our partnership with Community Health Centers to increase patients’ awareness of Ellie Fund’s services while in their trusted healthcare facility. Early use of Ellie Fund services addresses diagnostic and treatment delays, promotes prompt and continuous treatment, and ultimately reduces unnecessary deaths from breast cancer. Ellie Fund is grateful to the Office of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, the Massachusetts State Senate, and the Massachusetts House of Representatives who invest in our partnership with Community Health Centers and their patients. #NHCW24 #CommunityHealthCenter
