January is #HotTeaMonth— so let’s spill the tea on the science behind drinking it. Did you know tea’s antioxidants and amino acids, like L-theanine, can boost focus, energy and mood? Whether you’re sipping green tea for brain health or a calming tisane, there’s science to back those cozy vibes. The Mass General Research Institute spoke to Umadevi Naidoo, MD, a Mass General physician-scientist within the newly emerging field of nutritional psychiatry–the study of how food impacts our mental health–to learn more about the benefits of tea, according to science. January is National #BloodDonorMonth, a time to recognize the life-saving importance of donating blood and platelets. These Mass General employees have all donated. When you make a donation at the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center, you are making a life-saving difference for patients in need—right here in our community, as all donations benefit patients at Mass General. Read why they choose to donate. The quotes are in order of the photos. “I donate because I know that no matter how far medical technology advances, it’s a gift that only a person can give to a stranger. I am grateful to be healthy enough to be able to give back.” Erin Lachapelle Aphaeresis Technician in the Blood Donor Center “I donate blood because I recognize the importance of donations from people of color. It's a meaningful way for me to support my community and make a real difference. While I'm here to help save lives, I also enjoy the fun T-shirt. The annual AMMP blood drive has become a cherished tradition and an opportunity to connect with fellow employee resource group members in an impactful way.” Latoya P. Brewster, MBA, CMIP Director, Environmental Services "I have been a blood donor for over 40 years, ever since I learned about how important having a safe and stable blood supply is for helping patients receive the care they need for successful treatment. I consider the 30 minutes I spend when I donate as one of the contributions I can make to help our patients and our community." Bill Hynes Enterprise Vice President, Pathology “I donate because it helps others and saves lives. As soon as I’m eligible to donate again, I schedule an appointment and put it on my calendar. It only takes an hour like any other business meeting, but it is much more rewarding when I am done.” Sally Mason Boemer AMC Chief Financial Officer and MGB Senior Vice President, Clinical and Support Services
