We are proud to share that Christina Liriano, supervisor of event planning/catering at The Elliot, has been named Team Member of the Month for September 2024! The Team Member of the Month award is designed to recognize individuals who exemplify The Elliot’s mission to inspire, heal, and serve. Christina goes above and beyond to show her dedication to The Elliot’s mission, her team, and the patients they serve. Christina’s kindness to staff, patients, and visitors is inspiring. She is always a friendly face around the hospital and will stop what she is doing to offer a helping hand. One staff member recalls a time when they had spilled their coffee and needed a mop to clean it up. Christina was more concerned if the staff member was okay than with the spill itself. She assured them that she would take care of it. She even asked her director to check on the staff member, and offer them a new coffee. “She made me feel like a friend was helping me. She is the epitome of serving with compassion,” the staff member said. Christina takes pride in her work and is always professional and responsive with every point of contact when planning an event. “She does such a great job with any of the catering needed for events at The Elliot and ensures everything from the tablecloths to the AV displays are perfect,” one staff member said. Congratulations, Christina!

Meet JoAnn. Originally from Rochester, NH, she moved to the area in 2009 to be closer to her daughter, who was then an Elliot Health System nurse. That same year, JoAnn began her journey as a volunteer at The Elliot Medical Center at Londonderry, dedicating her time and heart to the community. Volunteering two mornings a week, JoAnn has logged over 4,500 hours and rarely misses a shift, even for doctor’s appointments, demonstrating her unwavering commitment. She adores the people she works with and the patients she meets, earning the affectionate nickname “Ma” from the veteran staff. JoAnn's presence is deeply felt by both staff and patients alike. When she's not at her regular post, it's common for people to ask where she is, highlighting the strong bonds she has formed. “I love it here. It’s a family,” JoAnn shares, reflecting on the support she received from the community, especially after her husband's passing. She cherishes the relationships she has built, often meeting her favorite “regular” patients for lunch or coffee, and proudly talks about being a great-grandmother. In her free time, JoAnn enjoys crocheting, and visitors often look for her adorable animal creations on the reception desk. She also loves spending time with friends and family, and dog-sitting for her daughter’s family. Thank you, JoAnn, for your love and dedication to our community.

Hello, I'm Kim Ricard, a senior sonographer at Elliot Hospital with over 40 years of experience, 20+ of them at Elliot. A sonographer specializes in using ultrasound technology (high-frequency sound wave equipment) to create pictures of the body's internal structures, including organs, tissues, and blood flow. This is important for diagnosing and monitoring various medical conditions. We can work in a range of medical settings, from obstetrics and gynecology to cardiology and oncology. Sonographers must have a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to capture and interpret these images accurately. We work closely with physicians to provide the necessary information for diagnosis and treatment planning, ensuring patient care is both effective and efficient. We interact directly with patients, explaining procedures, answering questions, and providing reassurance, thus contributing to the overall patient experience and care. I became a sonographer because of my fascination with medical imaging and the desire to make a tangible impact on people's lives. The ability to visualize internal structures and contribute to a patient's diagnosis without invasive procedures is both intriguing and rewarding. The field of sonography allows me to be at the forefront of medical advancements while also offering a personal connection with patients during their most vulnerable moments. My love for sonography stems from the daily challenges it brings and the meaningful ways it allows me to help people. The satisfaction of knowing that my work plays a critical role in their care is immensely fulfilling. Whether it's detecting the first heartbeat of a developing baby or identifying abnormalities that require further treatment, the impact of my work is profound. This combination of technical skills, patient interaction, and ongoing professional development makes my role as a sonographer incredibly rewarding.

Meet Devan Caikauskas, a dedicated member of the finance department at Elliot Health System, where she works as an accounts payable specialist. Devan has been with The Elliot for about a year, ensuring that our organization can continue providing top-notch care by managing invoices from suppliers. Though her work is behind the scenes, Devan plays a crucial role in supporting our health system. She says, “I help ensure the lights stay on and we can keep ordering supplies for our patient care! I enter invoices from suppliers, for anything from bills for the music that plays when babies are born to procedure-specific inventory for patients.” Before joining The Elliot, Devan worked at a tax firm, but she was eager to return to her professional finance roots once her daughter got a little older. The welcoming environment and strong work/life balance at Elliot drew her in, and she’s been thriving ever since. Outside of work, Devan enjoys her “nerdy” hobbies like video games and crafting. She’s also a devoted mom who loves exploring splash pads and other fun activities with her little one on the weekends. Devan’s enthusiasm for her role and her positive energy make her a valued member of our team. Thank you, Devan, for being such an uplifting member of our community and helping keep the lights on!

Based on yesterday’s rain, the Mary & John Elliot Charitable Foundation had to make the challenging decision to cancel The Elliot’s Annual Fall-Fest Golf Tournament. We were so looking forward to spending the afternoon gathering in support of the Elliot Breast Health Center. Thank you so much to everyone who has shown us such kindness and understanding with the decision not to play in the rain. We are grateful to event sponsors including BOND Building Construction, New York Life Insurance Company, Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network, New England PET Imaging, Aqueduct Technologies, Inc., Interstate Electrical Services, CGI Business Solutions, and Charles Schwab. A special thank you to our long-time partner and event host, Passaconaway Country Club, who has supported our decision and looks forward to hosting us next year!
