Just because an adolescent turns 18 doesn’t mean they don’t need guidance from a support network. We helped nearly 30 teens in transitional aftercare in the last year, even after they left our facilities. Learn more about our impact here: https://bit.ly/3sRgbHd.

About us
Mission: We help kids and families build healthy relationships so they can write their own story. Ellipsis brings together Youth Homes of Mid-America (YHMA) and Youth Emergency Services & Shelter (YESS), both storied Iowa institutions with long histories of helping kids succeed. As Ellipsis, we create a community where kids and families are valued, hopeful, healthy and together. Our trained and compassionate staff members assess individual needs and create a plan to overcome obstacles. We help teens in our care learn to live independently through the Supervised Apartment Living program, which allows them to have all the support of our staff and their own space so they can learn to be responsible for their own property. The belongings they have in this space will be the ones they take to their first home outside of our facilities. Help us set them up for success by checking out our apartment living wish lists on Amazon. https://bit.ly/3UlApnl

Our philosophy: Keep kids and families together in the home if feasible. Our family therapy can help kids, siblings, parents and others work through communication struggles, behavioral issues, mental health difficulties and other needs so that families can pause, heal and determine the next chapter of their story. "People don’t understand the struggles of everyday life and the sacrifices you make on a daily basis when your children have special needs. People look at you like you are a bad parent when out in public, throw their noses up, snicker, make comments and glare. Many of the families I support are going through some situation that is similar to what I’ve been through. When caring for a child or children with special needs, behavioral problems, trauma or learning disabilities, it is hard to get through it on your own. No one should have to." — Stephanie Adams, family peer support specialist at Ellipsis Read more about Stephanie's work: https://lnkd.in/g8QvfDtn.

Because of the ideas adults have about how kids should typically behave, children and adolescents with ADHD may be seen as having more behavioral issues than kids without this diagnosis. However, we want to flip the script and help kids see some ADHD symptoms as positives, not negatives, as well as give adults the tools to better support those with this diagnosis. #ADHDAwarenessMonth #ADHD

The kids we support are working to overcome trauma and hardships they’ve endured in their short lives through no fault of their own. Ellipsis is a safe place for them to pause and heal before they continue on to the next chapter of their lives. Learn more about our mission: EllipsisIowa.org/about/.
