Last year, I had the profound opportunity to complete The Embracing Equity Leadership Residency through a cohort sponsored by 80x3 at Greater Twin Cities United Way. This experience was transformative, both personally and professionally, as it supported individuals and organizations in our group to own and implement trauma-informed, anti-bias, and anti-racist organizational change. One of the most significant lessons we learned is that transforming organizations and the Minnesota early childhood ecosystem to be more affirming, inclusive, and equitable is incredibly challenging. There is no blueprint for this work, and it is often attempted in isolation. The journey requires continuous reflection, commitment, and the willingness to confront uncomfortable truths. #80x3 is currently recruiting nine early childhood nonprofits to join this journey. This new cohort will have the opportunity to come together in community, co-create change, and empower each other. Applications close on March 28th, and I highly encourage organizations committed to equity and inclusion to apply. Together, we can build a more just and equitable future for all children in Minnesota.

Congrats to our beloved board member, Wilhelmina Yazzie! What a beautiful way to open the Future Focused Education EdUprising Conference. 🎉
We are honored to announce that Wilhelmina Yazzie will lead the opening blessing for EdUprising Conference 2025! Wilhelmina Yazzie (Diné) was born and raised in the eastern region of the Navajo Nation, where she grew up in a small rural community in Casamero Lake, NM. She is Dziłgha’í Deeshchíí’nii born to Kiyaa’áanii. Wilhelmina and her partner, who is Lakóta, have three beautiful children. She is first a mother, and a strong advocate of educational equity for all children, as she is one of the key Plaintiffs in the education lawsuit Yazzie/Martinez vs. NM, who sued the state for its failure to uphold its legal obligation to give all students a sufficient equitable education. Like all parents, Wilhelmina wants her children to have a better quality education and an equal opportunity to succeed. She also values her culture and language, and views all children sacred. Aside from being a courageous parent, Wilhelmina is a Paralegal and is also a licensed Law Advocate to practice before her tribal courts. She is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and a member of the Navajo Nation Bar Association.

Today at SXSW EDU we packed the room to talk about what it truly means to be an unapologetically anti-racist educator—and let me tell you, the energy was electric. Standing room only. A testament to how many of us are ready to challenge the status quo and dismantle the racism embedded in our schools, institutions, and yes, even in ourselves. We are not asking for permission to do this work. The generations of activists and educators before us didn’t ask for permission either. Because as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said: “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” This moment, this movement—it’s bigger than any one of us. Our commitment to Embracing Equity in education is non-negotiable. And I’m more fired up than ever to keep pushing forward. Who’s with me? #AntiRacistEducation #EquityInAction #JusticeInEducation #SXSW

DEI is under attack — but we’re not backing down. The idea that DEI and “merit” are at odds is total BS. In reality, strong DEI strategies and programs elevate the caliber of hires and promotions, driving greater effectiveness. Inclusive hiring expands talent pools, boosts engagement, and enhances overall performance. Embracing Equity isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s the smart thing to do. The philanthropic sector has a choice: stand firm in our collective commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion or allow fear to dictate our decisions. This latest piece from the Center for Effective Philanthropy reminds us why we must hold the line. Now is the time for philanthropy to double down, not retreat. Our values demand it. Our communities deserve it. https://lnkd.in/gmBDTGf8 #DEI #Philanthropy #RacialEquity #StandForJustice #EmbracingEquity
