I'm grateful and excited to have reconnected with Aaron Barlin, M.S.Ed. this past weekend as co-presenters at the 2023 Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) Alumni Conference. Aaron and I first met as Education Sciences majors at UC Irvine; because we went on to different credential programs and taught in different districts, this conference was a fulfilling place to have our paths cross again! Our session "Navigating the World of Instructional Design" explored how instructional design can serve as a contextual avenue for transferring classroom teaching skills to new domains of learning, and vice versa. We loved being in the classroom, so we are humbled to share how the work of teaching can extend into—and learn from—other educational spaces: I shared my pathway to becoming an instructional designer for the Stanford University School of Medicine / Stanford CME, while Aaron displayed his approaches to leadership and staff development through Emergent Change | DEI Consulting.
