Sleep inequities are an overlooked yet critical issue affecting health outcomes. Dr. Dayna J., Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Emory's Rollins School of Public Health, found that minoritized groups experience poorer sleep quality and more severe disorders, such as sleep apnea and insomnia. These patterns are often linked to social factors like living in disadvantaged neighborhoods, and contribute to serious health risks like hypertension. There is a significant correlation between sleep and diabetes, with poor sleep patterns contributing to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and exacerbating diabetes management. About us
At the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center (EGDRC), we leverage our extensive global network to develop and advance the abilities of Emory, US, and non-US researchers to engage in world-class research in diabetes and other related non-communicable diseases such as stroke, hypertension, heart disease and co-morbid conditions such as tuberculosis, mental health, and HIV. Our research seeks to understand causes and consequences, investigate prevention methods, and inform policy by exploring risk factors such as socio-demographics, nutrition, obesity, physiology, and physical activity.

Prescriptions for GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors are on the rise for people with type 1 diabetes, despite these drugs not being approved for this population. Dr. Hui Shao from EGDRC, and colleagues found significant weight management and cardiorenal benefits but also raise concerns over the safety of these medications in T1D. More research is underway to determine whether these drugs can be safely used in type 1 diabetes. Learn more about this important study: https://lnkd.in/gYq6Acne

🌟 Last week we welcomed the CARRS Annual Investigators Meeting to Atlanta for the very first time! Nearly two decades in the making, we welcomed nearly 30 leading investigators from premier institutions in India to Emory’s campus to share groundbreaking research on cardiometabolic health. We kicked off with the Cardiometabolic Health in India Symposium, where Emory faculty, staff, students, and friends engaged in inspiring discussions and explored new collaborative opportunities. It was truly a global meeting of the minds! The week was filled with memorable moments, from a captivating evening at the Michael C. Carlos Museum, where we toured remarkable exhibitions and enjoyed dinner with experts from both Emory and India, to a fun and social night at Ponce City Market, filled with delicious food and great company. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible and to those who joined us. The connections we’ve fostered this week will continue to drive innovation in cardiometabolic health research and beyond. 🌍💡 #CARRSCohort #GlobalHealth #CardiometabolicHealth #Innovation #EmoryIndia #EGDRC #ResearchCollaboration #EmoryCommunity
