About us

EmpathyLab is a social enterprise on a mission to raise an empathy-educated generation, and build a better world for everyone. EmpathyLab is the first organisation to build children's empathy, literacy and social activism through a systematic use of high-quality literature. Our strategy builds on new scientific evidence showing the power of reading to build real-life empathy skills. We believe that empathy is a beacon of hope in a divided world. What do we do? Our strategy builds on the latest scientific evidence showing the power of reading to build real-life empathy skills through 4 key programmes: - Empathy Day is now established as a national day with mass support from children's authors, publishers, library services and schools. Empathy Day 2024 is on 6 June. Empathy Action Month, a month devoted to social action, is held every November and is a chance to revisit the Resolutions made on Empathy Day. - Our Schools Programme continues to make an impact across the country, as shown in our evaluation reports. - Our annual Read for Empathy Guides, with associated book collections chosen by an expert panel. The 2024 book collection launches in February - We work with an ever growing army of authors and illustrators who are helping us spread the empathy message.
