  • We always enjoy hearing feedback from our patients, especially outstanding reviews! One of our recent patients, Lexanne, shared, "Coming to Encompass Health directly after brain surgery was something I didn’t expect, but I’m forever thankful for this experience. Without the staff, I would have mentally and physically been in such a rut after losing full movement of my entire left side. I’m so thankful for the entire staff, and for Tracy and Beth and all of the therapists who constantly encouraged me and pushed me.” Congratulations on your recovery, Lexanne!

  • Dayle Unger started as a nurse at Encompass Health nearly 30 years ago. She’s served in various roles since then, including a nurse, director of case management, business development director and hospital CEO. She is now our vice president of clinical IT. From working directly with patients to moving to a corporate role, one thing remains the same—she leads with kindness. The following is some more of Dayle’s practical career advice and tips:- - Exhibit confidence but be honest. Understand your weaknesses and discuss how you can work with your manager or others to turn weaknesses into strengths. Maintain a document of your achievements throughout the year to be more effective with discussions during performance appraisals or other growth opportunity discussions. - Create harmony between work and life. It is not a reasonable goal to strive for an absolute balance between work and personal life. Throughout periods of our lives there will be times when the scale moves up and down; there is never a completely balanced scale. The key is accepting that and learning to effectively manage your time to achieve a level of harmony that works for you. - Listen and listen some more. Always show kindness and respect and listen, listen some more and listen some more.

  • Lori Bedard has been with Encompass Health for 28 years and now serves as president of our Southeast region. Finding employment with an organization you believe in is her first piece of career advice, and then dedicate yourself to your role by: - Continually improving your skills: This requires a daily investment in educating and challenging yourself. Listen to podcasts or audiobooks and read books related to your profession; then, apply your learning to your work and improving the organization. - Taking on stretch assignments: Stretch assignments go beyond your day-to-day responsibilities. Leaders will recognize your talent and hard work, and then in turn become your biggest advocate. - Being self-aware: Self-awareness is incredibly important for growth. Everyone makes mistakes or makes decisions that are not optimal. Recognizing those mistakes and decisions and learning from them is crucial if you really want to grow your career.
