People with criminal records face a web of barriers that follow them throughout their lifetimes.
About us
The Illinois Coalition to End Permanent Punishments (ENDPP.ORG) believes that access to housing, education, employment, and civic engagement are inherent human rights that promote a healthy society. An arrest or conviction record that follows people for life, negates their ability to grow and redefine themselves beyond their worst moments. We can eliminate generational poverty, provide more equal access to the basic resources families need to thrive and create the agency that so many people need to take control of their destinies. ENDPP.ORG’s mission is to end permanent punishments for individuals with arrest or conviction records by centering the leadership development of those directly impacted. ENDPP.ORG, an organization made up entirely of formerly incarcerated persons, passed the FREE Act in July 2023, restoring over 600,000 individuals to the legal right to administer their family’s estates, ensuring equal access to generational wealth building.

Wish I had more pictures! I was honored and humbled to join a panel discussion this morning at Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC: University Symposium--“Civil Liberties, Citizenship, & the Carceral State” hosted by Professor @John Holton and facilitated by my sister Xochitl Adáme Guerrero, MSW, LCSW. I shared the mic with Professor Sara Beeler, PhD, LCSW, MPA, and alums Representative Lindsey Lapointe and Donald Dew, then ran out to catch our bus to the Formerly Incarcerated, Convicted People & Families Movement (FICPFM) conference in Detroit. Always proud to represent ENDPP.ORG at public events. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Agreed!
Arrest and conviction records, and the barriers they create, are a far-reaching issue. It doesn’t matter who you are, what your background is, where you come from, or where you’re at now — you, or someone you know, have been directly impacted by the justice system. That’s why we chose to uplift and recognize Congresswoman Nikema Williams at this year’s CBCF ALC reception: because not only has she fought tirelessly for justice-impacted Georgians, she’s also one of the one in three people in America living with a record. Last week, she shared with us the impact of her own second chance: “I got arrested when I was standing up with my constituents. Standing up against voter suppression in Georgia… so I am here to be your voice, and I will always be with you, and I am so proud to count you all as co-conspirators for justice as we do this work together.” We are grateful for your continued support of #CleanSlate and #SecondChances! #CleanSlate #SecondChances #reform #advocate #policy
