Providing reliable, affordable, environmentally responsible power to the Northwest.
About us
Energy Northwest produces reliable, affordable, environmentally responsible electric power and delivers it to Northwest public power utilities at the cost of production. Formed as a joint operating agency in 1957, the organization was created to serve the needs of public power by producing reliable, low-cost electricity while promoting public power activities in the region. Today the joint operating agency membership includes nearly every public power utility district in the state and several municipalities. The agency owns and operates four electricity generating facilities: White Bluffs Solar Station, Packwood Lake Hydroelectric Project, Nine Canyon Wind Project and Columbia Generating Station (nuclear energy facility). Energy Northwest also provides operations and maintenance services for generating facilities owned by other utilities, and develops new power generation facilities to meet growing demand. "One of the greatest concerns for community-owned electric utilities is having access to reliable sources of electricity that fulfill carbon-free energy mandates. Advanced nuclear fits the bill. This bold partnership between Energy Northwest and Amazon will help pave the way for additional nuclear development in our region and represents a critical step toward achieving a clean and dependable electric grid." Kurt Miller, executive director, Northwest Public Power Association

We take pride in our clean energy generation team and the 29 public power utilities that deliver affordable electricity across the Pacific Northwest. Public power is electricity that is provided by community-owned utilities rather than private or investor-owned companies. These utilities are owned by the customers they serve, which includes local governments, municipalities or cooperatives. #PublicPower #PublicPowerWeek #WeArePublicPower
