Today we want to shout-out an incredible show from Congo Square Theatre, as this is the last weekend to go see it! Read more about the show below, and be sure to get your tickets at https://lnkd.in/eiAB9kDD. A dark comedy by Inda Craig-Galván, WELCOME TO MATTESON! follows two Black couples over the course of a dinner party; one couple has lived in the Chicago suburb of Matteson for years, the other has just moved in after being forcibly relocated from the Cabrini-Green housing projects. A uniquely Chicago story, the play explores universal themes of gentrification, housing justice, and inter-class relationships. Directed by Congo Square Theatre Artistic Director Ericka Ratcliff, the play features Congo Square Ensemble Members Ronald L. Conner, Anthony L. Irons, and Alexis J. Roston. Today we'd like to highlight an important interview with Janie Pochel, of @chinationsyouthcouncil from 2020. This interview, conducted by Jacqueline Serrato of South Side Weekly, discusses the intersections in the struggle for Black and Indigenous folks around Chicago, how solidarity has looked, what it may look like in the future. Special thanks to Janie for reaching out to us after the previous iteration of this post to make some needed adjustments! You can read the full article on South Side Weekly's Website. #indigenous #indigenouswomen #indigenouspride #blacklivesmatter #chicago #racialequity #socialequity #socialjustice #solidarity #chicagoartist
