  • In response to environmental pressures, Timor-Leste is prioritising innovative governance of its land sector. Our collaboration in designing effective land sector Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) is key to enabling comprehensive international reporting and opening up the potential to access financial rewards for emissions reductions or removals in the land sector. This strategic initiative marks a critical step in achieving a lower-carbon future. Explore our involvement and the project’s impact in our detailed case study. https://lnkd.in/gmah8pkk

  • At EAS, we embraced the task of creating a comprehensive manual for MLA’s Carbon Edge trainers. Our goal: To provide them with the knowledge and tools to address complex queries about carbon management in agriculture. Learn how we tackled the project and the unique strategies we implemented to make carbon literacy accessible and engaging for trainers and participants alike. 👉 Find out more about our recent case study https://lnkd.in/gt53hiDd

  • In 2022 EAS supported Vanuatu to complete their Forest Reference Level (FRL). We achieved this by reviewing the outcomes of the National Forest Inventory (NFI), National FRL and National Forest Monitoring System (NFMS) work programmes. We provided advice on how the reports produced by these programmes could be improved, and the detail required to support a successful FRL submission to the UNFCCC. Our team then provided the structure required to align with the expectations of the UNFCCC guidelines for submission of the National FRL and used the outcomes of the completed work packages to produce a draft FRL on Vanuatu’s behalf. We ensured the technical approach undertaken to establish the FRL was consistent with the UNFCCC Warsaw Framework for REDD+, the latest IPCC good practice guidelines including the TACCC principles (Transparency, Accuracy, Consistency, Completeness and Comparability), and guidance and the Government of Vanuatu forest policy and legal frameworks. We are thrilled to see Vanuatu have successfully completed FRL verification through the UNFCCC and have produced a final FRL submission furthering the initial work completed by EAS. 🙌 https://lnkd.in/g6SzJx6d

  • A groundbreaking report from The Nature Conservancy in Aotearoa New Zealand and Ministry for the Environment | Manatū mō te Taiao, with contributions from Jacobs, Environmental Accounting Services, Anderson Lloyd, and Conservation International, is setting the stage for transformative action in Coastal Wetlands. This report dives deep into the barriers and opportunities for scaling blue carbon restoration projects across Aotearoa New Zealand and proposes innovative solutions to overcome complex policy, regulatory, technical, and legal challenges. With our global expertise in blue carbon projects, GHG inventories, and methodological guidance, Environmental Accounting Services played a key role in crafting this vital report. It’s poised to shape future government policies and steer community strategies for managing coastal wetlands in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Promoting the restoration of coastal wetlands via blue carbon credits can contribute to our collective climate response by helping New Zealand adapt to the impacts of climate change and supporting our communities through the transition. The The Nature Conservancy in Aotearoa New Zealand and the Ministry for the Environment | Manatū mō te Taiao commissioned a report to look at the barriers and opportunities for landowners to earn blue carbon credits to support restoring New Zealand coastal wetlands. It recommends ways to address the policy, regulatory and legal complexities which currently exist, to remove barriers and allow New Zealand projects to participate in carbon markets at scale. Coastal wetlands help mitigate climate change by converting CO₂ emissions into plant biomass, potentially more effectively than forests. Coastal wetlands also help protect communities against storm surge and sea level rise by providing natural coastal protection.  This report is intended to help inform future government policy and communities around management of coastal wetlands. However, the issues are complex, and considered policy analysis, research and consultation will be needed before any recommended approach can be developed. Investing in nature-based solutions via carbon credits can play a role in averting the climate crisis. Other solutions include reducing emissions, protecting and restoring natural ecosystems, developing and implementing innovative technological solutions, and investing in and deploying renewable energy to deliver the majority of the mitigation needed. The report was authored by Jacobs, Environmental Accounting Services, Anderson Lloyd and Conservation International. >> Read the report: https://lnkd.in/gJzZCDnY

  • Important Update from SBTi: New Technical Publications Released Earlier this month, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) released a set of technical publications that represent an important step forward in developing the Corporate Net-Zero Standard. This draft standard is anticipated to be available for public review by the end of the year. See https://lnkd.in/epK7JC6C The newly released publications provide detailed insights into various mechanisms for integrating carbon credits into corporate climate strategies. These include Beyond-Value-Chain Mitigation (BVCM), insetting, and neutralisation. While these mechanisms outline potential ways to utilise carbon credits, SBTi underscores that direct decarbonisation remains the foremost priority for achieving science-based targets. This emphasis is vital for ensuring that carbon credits are used to support, rather than replace, direct emissions reductions. SBTi is actively seeking feedback on these publications to refine and enhance the upcoming draft standard. Your feedback is essential in shaping a framework that not only supports effective climate action but also maintains the credibility and integrity of net-zero commitments. We encourage all stakeholders to engage in this feedback process. Your insights will help ensure that the final standard is both robust and practical, driving meaningful progress toward global climate goals. Stay informed about these developments and make your voice heard in shaping the future of corporate climate action. https://lnkd.in/g8png-Rw
