About us
The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is an independent campaigning organization committed to bringing about change that defends the natural world from environmental crime and abuse. Our campaigns to protect endangered wildlife, forests, and the global climate operate at the intersection between global trade and the accelerating loss of natural resources and species. EIA takes advantage of its independence and mobility to produce game-changing primary evidence and analysis of these problems and to build lasting alliances, institutions, and policies to address those challenges. EIA’s methods are unique; we utilize undercover investigations, intelligence reports, and campaigning expertise to achieve far-reaching environmental protection.

For 37 years, our planet's ozone has been recovering from the effects of pollution thanks to the Montreal Protocol. For #WorldOzoneDay, we're reflecting on the decades of work it took to enact - and enforce - one of the most successful environmental agreements in history. We know that the world can come together to take action for our climate. Now, we need to do it again. Join us in taking action and holding companies accountable for harmful HFC emissions: https://lnkd.in/eYQaXHDm

On #WorldCleanAirDay, we’re putting the spotlight on emissions of super pollutant greenhouse gases (F-gases) from fluorochemical production facilities. These emissions pose serious risks to our health and the environment. F-gas emissions are concerning for human and environmental health: they have high global warming impact and some contribute to ozone depletion or can break down into persistent by-products that are potentially toxic and stay in the environment forever. https://lnkd.in/e9K2_9cN For example, our investigation revealed HFO-1234yf, which breaks down into potentially toxic ‘forever chemical’ trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), but is not included in emissions reporting requirements. #CleanAirNow means holding industries accountable for their air pollution!

“It’s absurd that the FSC certifies companies that clearly and openly violate basic human rights and Indigenous rights," says Julia Urrunaga, Director of our Peru program. "How terrible that people have to keep dying and that it has to be an international scandal for action to be taken.” https://lnkd.in/dcawFRXs

There are a lot of great apes to celebrate for #InternationalPrimateDay, but we are fond of Asia’s orangutans 🦧 All three species can be found in Indonesia, and all three are under threat. Learn what the country must do to protect them at https://lnkd.in/dkj3PnVa
