Our latest report reveals major voter participation gaps among Latino communities in the Central Valley and Southern California. These are the very communities most impacted by climate change and environmental injustice. Despite California’s efforts to expand access to voting, millions of eligible voters are still not registered or turning out at the polls, particularly among Latino voters. Key findings: 🗳️ 7M+ eligible Californians didn't vote in 2020. 📊 Latinos have the lowest turnout rates in key counties. 🌍 Central Valley & Inland Empire are major areas of underrepresentation. Closing this gap is essential for a more inclusive democracy! We’re making strides in the fight against the climate crisis with key wins like the timely implementation of the Climate Corporate Leadership and Accountability Act (SB 219) and new policies to protect wetlands and electrify neighborhoods (AB 2875, SB 1221). However, we’re also facing setbacks with the veto of critical bills that could have empowered consumers and improved EV battery recycling (AB 2513, SB 615). 2025 must be a year of bold climate action to protect our future. It’s the end of the legislative session which means there’s a BUNCH of bills that are sitting on Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom's desk right now waiting to be signed. So let’s talk about a few of our priority bills that didn’t make the cut, as I cut some cucumbers for my meal prep. President Biden recently signed a proclamation declaring September 2024 National Wilderness Month. In that proclamation, he mentions his use of the Antiquities Act: "To date, my Administration has conserved more than 41 million acres of our Nation’s lands and waters. I restored protections for the desert buttes of both the Bears Ears National Monument and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah and the underwater canyons of Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. I established six new national monuments, including the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni in Arizona and the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in Nevada. And I expanded the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument in California." Thank you, President Biden. Please continue protecting places that tell our country's important stories like #ProtectCADeserts, #ProtectKwtsan, and #ProtectSáttítla. https://bit.ly/4gfTCzY

Last week, we attended EnviroVoters endorsed candidate Sade ElHawary's fundraiser! She’s spent over 12 years developing the next generation of social justice leaders with the Community Coalition, and her commitment to fighting for equity is exactly what we need in office. As the Youth Engagement Campaign Manager for Karen Bass’ mayoral run, Sade showed us her dedication to empowering young people and building a brighter future. She even helped create the Fremont High School Wellness Center, tackling health disparities in underserved communities. Sade is the climate champion we need to lead the charge for climate justice! We are proud to support her in her run for State Assembly. Check out our endorsed candidates here: https://bit.ly/3AWhc4R

Super exciting to see our Federal Advocacy Coordinator, Aaron McCall Craddolph, earn a feature on Politico as we attended the DNC to support the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz as the Democratic Party Presidential candidates. “We hope that she can be unburdened by the expectations of those before her and talk more about climate impacts and solutions in future stump speeches to the American people.” More here: https://lnkd.in/giFKDRbN
