Today, we announced long-time innovation partner Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is running technology developed by its scientists on EPB Quantum NetworkSM powered by Qubitekk, Inc. This is the first time ORNL has run its technology on a commercially available quantum network. This effort builds upon award-winning work with ORNL. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga joins the collaboration from the node on their campus connected to EPB Quantum Network. UTC is the first American university to be connected to a commercial quantum network. EPB Quantum Network is a major effort to position Chattanooga for economic benefit as a leader in the rapidly emerging quantum industry. We applied more than 15 years of fiber optic experience to create the first commercially available quantum network in the nation and want to ensure our entire community benefits. Incentives help EPB business customers save energy and money As part of our mission to enhance our community’s quality of life, EPB supports local economic opportunity by supporting local job growth. We work with Tennessee Valley Authority Energy Right to help our business community achieve more efficient operations through lower power costs so they can focus on what they do best. EPB Manager of Energy Services Angela Love applies a concierge mindset to empower local businesses that want to lower their energy usage. Often starting with an energy audit, businesses are paired with an engineer who helps them understand how much energy they use and the incentives available to help them use less. From manufacturing and logistics to schools and small businesses, EPB works with operations of all sizes to learn more about their goals and help them improve their bottom line by making smart investments like new LED lighting, more efficient HVAC systems, customized solutions and more. These can be part of strategic job growth initiatives, paired with other capital investments or simply to replace old equipment. Thanks to the Chattanooga Times Free Press for speaking with Angela and Chattanooga Bakery, Inc.'s Enrique Vizoso about what businesses need to know to get started. Full speed ahead: How EPB uses fiber optic technology to keep Chattanooga on the cutting edge EPB’s commitment to continuously upgrading its multi-gig network keeps Chattanooga on the cutting edge with the world’s fastest community-wide 100% fiber optic network. Behind the scenes, EPB is midway through a $70 million upgrade that sped up the network to 25 Gig connectivity—and will keep speeds increasing to prepare our community for future needs. EPB uses “passive optical network”—or PON—technology to make this possible. Like EPB’s network, PON uses all fiber optic technology, which makes it among the most reliable internet connectivity options for ensuring customers stay connected. Using this technology for our fiber optic network helped contribute to a $2.7 billion community benefit in just the first 10 years since launching it, including nearly 10,000 new and retained jobs, an unemployment rate lower than the nation and the state, and the creation of HCS EdConnect to help underserved K-12 children access high-speed internet at home. Light Reading interviewed EPB’s Shane Sexton about the EPB’s leadership in PON technology in a special video: https://lnkd.in/g3zvXWM8. Learn more about PON technology and how it has benefited Chattanooga with multi-gig service at https://lnkd.in/gTxPnPtm #pon #wifi #internet #broadband #fiber

Oak Ridge and EPB continue to work together for energy solutions Last week, EPB hosted more than a dozen scientists from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to see how their research might be applied in the real world on EPB’s advanced smart grid. Working together isn’t new for EPB and ORNL; we’ve enjoyed a decade-plus-long relationship of advancing research and achievements in award-winning technology, like an R&D 100 Award for demonstrating quantum-enabled cybersecurity to protect the electric grid. ORNL participants heard about how EPB operates its electric system and fiber optic network to support its mission to improve quality of life, including new advancements in automation, energy storage, microgrids, network design, quantum technology, and more. One of the most popular sessions covered customer service, providing a full circle moment for researchers to hear how technology helps fulfill customers' needs. #quantum #cha #smartgrid
