EPB Dedicates Final 10th Street Substation Murals Today, EPB dedicated the fourth and final wall of murals at its 10th Street Substation. The final murals illustrated the theme of “The Magic of Unity,” which tells the stories about the possibilities of change when we work together as one. The project concludes four years of highlighting the unique history of the MLK neighborhood in Chattanooga, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s contributions, the community’s reputation as “Chattanooga’s Beale Street” and the landmark legal precedent set by five women who successfully sued the Ku Klux Klan. During that time, the project also helped establish and grow the careers and portfolios of local artists, many of whom are women and minorities. EPB completed an analysis of the community benefit created by the mural project using a nationally recognized IMPLAN analysis and found that every dollar spent on the project generates $1.78 of economic output in the region. Thank you to our partners who helped make this possible: ArtsBuild, Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, Bessie Smith Cultural Center, City of Chattanooga-Public Art Chattanooga, Association for Visual Arts, Hunter Museum of American Art, Stove Works, River City Company, CHATT Foundation, Five Star Breaktime Solutions https://lnkd.in/engFpcgT #MLK #cha #art #mural

What first responders are ranked in the top 10 of Forbes' most dangerous jobs? Electrical Power-line Installers and Repairers! Join us at the Tennessee Valley Lineman Rodeo June 7-8 to cheer on Team EPB lineman as they compete among a 7-state region by racing up 45-foot-tall poles to demonstrate speed, precision and safety. Communities depend on linemen to work in snow, wind, rain and extreme temperatures to keep power on and restore it when storms and other damage knock it out. Linework is a highly skilled field that requires 8,000 hours of hands-on apprentice training to qualify for these meaningful jobs with excellent wages and opportunities for advancement. There will be opportunities to learn more about this high-quality field during the Rodeo at “What it’s like to be a lineman” interactive sessions on June 7 at 2 p.m. and June 8 at 9 a.m. The free event (plus free parking) will be hosted at Tennessee RiverPark (enter from ChattState’s west campus). World Quantum Day: Why it matters to Chattanooga World Quantum Day celebrates the science of the smallest things. These tiny particles can mean big improvements from business optimization to healthcare to quality of life. And EPB is working with partners across Chattanooga to leverage EPB Quantum Network powered by Qubitekk to position our community to lead in this rapidly emerging sector so our local residents and companies can benefit from the technical developments and economic growth in coming years. In a dynamic shift that’s being compared in scale to the advent of the internet, quantum technology will be able to process more information faster than the fastest supercomputer today to find solutions like: • Healthcare: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is pioneering work to use quantum particles for ultra high-resolution scans, which can detect anomalies at the atomic level to facilitate early detection and treatment. • Security: EPB, Qubitekk, Inc., Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory won an R&D 100 Award for using pioneering quantum technology to protect the electric grid. • Business Optimization: Quantum computers will be able to process more information than today’s technology to solve complex, multi-variable problems for logistics, automotive, insurance and other industries in which Chattanooga leads — from financial forecasting to identifying the fastest delivery routes. Visit GigCityGoesQuantum.com with your friends, family, coworkers or just yourself to learn more and how you can be part of the Quantum Age.
