About us
Harney & Associates is a consultancy to nonprofits with clients across the country. We provide a variety of services, including: conference keynotes and workshops, board development and training, grant life cycle activities, grant reviews, fundraising strategy, and credential coaching. Harney & Associates is lead by Dr. Ericka Harney, CAE, CFRE, GPC, CVA. She has been responsible for fundraising campaigns and grant awards resulting in over $40 million. Dr. Harney has previously secured grant funding from notable foundations such as the Ford, Robert Wood Johnson, Lumina, Gates, and A.P. Sloan and successful government funding from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), US Department of Agriculture, Americorps, and the state of Ohio to name a few. Dr. Harney is the former Executive Director of the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) and The Foundation of AFWA, as well as the co-founder of a social enterprise catering company, a fair chance employer of women in treatment for substance use disorders. Her work in programs for women and girl’s empowerment led to recognition from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Lexington Chapter with the Tribute Award, the Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road Council with the Honor Pin, and the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity with the Herbert G. Horton Award for Scouting and Youth Services. Ericka’s Ph.D. is in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Nonprofit, and she holds several credentials, including the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and the Grant Professional Certified (GPC).

Happy International Women's Day to all my friends and colleagues! Today, I want to celebrate and acknowledge a remarkable woman who had a profound impact on my journey. Dr. Maryann Musser, my Girl Scout troop Leader, played a pivotal role in shaping both my life and career. Maryann not only led our troop but also served as a dedicated trainer for the council. I vividly remember the time she fibbed a little and told me I couldn't achieve my Gold Award until I turned 18, all to ensure I stayed with the troop until graduation. I promised to stay, and in return, she presented me with an exciting opportunity: to become a trainer alongside her and our other troop leaders. At just 16, I found myself training new leaders under their mentorship. And I've been an adult educator since then as a volunteer trainer, faculty, and professional trainer. I love this work. How fitting that I found out today that I've become a GPA Approved Trainer (again-life got in the way for a minute). On this International Women's Day, I reflect on the invaluable guidance and support Dr. Maryann Musser provided, shaping me into the leader I am today. Here's to strong women like her who inspire and empower the next generation! #IWD25

Today is Women Rock Day, a perfect occasion to honor and celebrate the incredible women in our lives for their invaluable contributions. Considering rewatching the impactful documentary "Six Triple Eight," a remarkable film that sheds light on a pivotal historical event. A friend and I had the privilege of viewing it at The Neon in Dayton, one of the exclusive 9 cities chosen by Netflix for a big-screen showcase. The movie beautifully portrays the inspiring narrative, notably highlighting the remarkable Lieutenant Colonel Charity Adams, whose legacy is deeply intertwined with Dayton and rests in peace at Woodland Cemetery. She attended Wilberforce University and Camp Lee was renamed Fort Gregg-Adams to recognize her commitment to our country. At the time of her retirement from the Army, she was the highest-ranking woman of color.
