Our hearts and prayers are with everyone impacted by Hurricane Helene. As people continue to deal with the aftermath of the storm and navigate next steps in piecing back together lives, homes, businesses, job sites and communities, we want to thank those making a difference with their time and resources. We especially want to give a shout-out to the utility linemen across our region, who have been putting in long hours to get power restored in areas of need, as well as public works and first responders. Earlier this week, CarolinaPower dispatched a team to deliver 250 gallons of gas and 100 gallons of diesel fuel to the Augusta (Ga.) area to aid in relief efforts.

This was our final day at the King & Prince Resort in St. Simons Island of MetroPower’s strategic planning. Today’s meeting was centered around each branch’s goals, successes, and challenges for the remainder of this year and the future. We have enjoyed a couple of guest speakers such as Hamzah Shanbari of DysrUPtek and Robin Crawford-Thomas of Smyrna Diversity Consulting , Inc. As a bonding exercise between sessions, everyone competed in a cornhole tournament. We were divided into 7 teams. Duane Howell’s Salty Vibes team won, thanks in part to the awesome skills of Scott Williams and Doug Schultz who lead the team to victory. The winners chose their favorite charity, Cancer Ties, who will be awarded the grand prize. Afterward, 3 cornhole sets were auctioned off to the highest bidders among the other teams. The proceeds raised from the auction were split and will be donated to 3 more favorite charities. The amount raised by MetroPower’s managers and VPs in the cornhole tournament totaled over $19,000. Thanks to all who participated, your hearts are in the right place. #metropower #cancerties #cornhole #strategicplanning #kingandprinceresort

Albany State University (ASU) fans are excited to start the 2024 Fall season at Valdosta State this Saturday, August 31st. The following week, the Golden Rams will return home to the ASU Coliseum against Shaw University of Raleigh, NC.  Fans will be pleasantly surprised when they see the Rams’ new field surface of blue and gold artificial turf on September 7th. Albany State was one of four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to receive a 6.5-million-dollar grant from the Arthur Blank’s Family Foundation to purchase the new playing surface. Converted from natural grass to blue artificial turf, the coliseum’s field is stunning. The HBCU Invitational Field Refurbishment Program was designed to improve field quality, safety, and accessibility for students and local community groups. Typically mixed in the turf are crumb rubber and nut-fill fibers from walnuts. Artificial turf is known to provide more protection against concussions and physical injuries. In addition, it can drastically reduce water consumption and landscaping costs as well as provide easy maintenance. MetroPower was proud to prepare the field by wiring the turf boxes located at the sidelines and play clock to make electricity accessible for the media and their equipment. Golden Rams, head coach, Quinn Gray states “We’re very, very thankful for the Blank Family Foundation because this surface will allow us to really hone our skills… It’s a tremendous opportunity to play on one of the best surfaces around.” Gray’s team will practice on the new turf later this week. Fans will get a first-hand experience with the new blue and gold field, September 7th, at ASU’s home opener against Shaw. #metropower #albanystate #albanystateuniversity #asufootball #asurams #HBCU #ArthurBlankfamilyfoundation
