Albany State University (ASU) fans are excited to start the 2024 Fall season at Valdosta State this Saturday, August 31st. The following week, the Golden Rams will return home to the ASU Coliseum against Shaw University of Raleigh, NC.  Fans will be pleasantly surprised when they see the Rams’ new field surface of blue and gold artificial turf on September 7th. Albany State was one of four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to receive a 6.5-million-dollar grant from the Arthur Blank’s Family Foundation to purchase the new playing surface. Converted from natural grass to blue artificial turf, the coliseum’s field is stunning. The HBCU Invitational Field Refurbishment Program was designed to improve field quality, safety, and accessibility for students and local community groups. Typically mixed in the turf are crumb rubber and nut-fill fibers from walnuts. Artificial turf is known to provide more protection against concussions and physical injuries. In addition, it can drastically reduce water consumption and landscaping costs as well as provide easy maintenance. MetroPower was proud to prepare the field by wiring the turf boxes located at the sidelines and play clock to make electricity accessible for the media and their equipment. Golden Rams, head coach, Quinn Gray states “We’re very, very thankful for the Blank Family Foundation because this surface will allow us to really hone our skills… It’s a tremendous opportunity to play on one of the best surfaces around.” Gray’s team will practice on the new turf later this week. Fans will get a first-hand experience with the new blue and gold field, September 7th, at ASU’s home opener against Shaw. #metropower #albanystate #albanystateuniversity #asufootball #asurams #HBCU #ArthurBlankfamilyfoundation

MetroPower, Inc. (MPI) and PPC Foundation sponsored twelve Metro-Atlanta high school students for two-weeks this summer for an “Electrical Systems and Sustainability” Summer Camp on the Georgia Tech campus (GT) at the Kendeda building. This camp was hosted by the GT Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC). Dr. Marwan Shagar, GT instructor for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP), conducted lessons on electrical theory, building systems integration, and engineering careers. Besides lectures, the students visited four organizations: MetroPower, Southwire, ABM, and the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) facility. They received information on the power distribution network and the part each organization plays in delivering electricity from power generation to businesses and homes. Additionally, students received career advice from 12 guest speakers who discussed career paths and the opportunities available in the electrical industry. Alberto Peluzzo, President & COO of MPI, shared his journey from GT to executive-level management with valuable tips on advancement through the various levels of management concerning leadership, people, passion, perseverance and creativity. Finally, the camp concluded after a wiring competition using RealCareer Electrical Wiring Kit , which provided lessons in safely wiring common electrical circuits and attaching devices. David Womble and Jose Zabala, MPI’s Branch 85, guided students on safe wiring practices and evaluated each participant’s work during the competition. Each student earned a Certificate of Completion from Georgia Tech for attending the camp. #metropower #georgiatech #kendedabuilding #students #metroatlanta #Careers #electrical #electricalcareers
